Why is there this subset of people who get super angry when confronted with compassion toward animals. Cute animals particularly.

"Oh but did you know your SHOES are made of dead animals! Where do you think all these shoes come from?! Magic Shoe Land?! How about I abduct you and leave you in the woods with no food and a loaded rifle!! Let's see how long your compassion lasts THEN!! I will be releasing one hundred blind lambs into the woods and I will not come back to get you until your SOUL has DIED!!"

This is a level of anger I usually don't experience unless I open my pepperoni lover's pizza I ordered only to find the pizza was made by those sick bastards who put the pepperoni under the cheese, may they burn forever in the fires of hell.

Yes. You'd make a good apprentice. But only after you rid yourself of your weakness for cutsey wootsey animals.

I wouldn't call it interesting, i would call it weird. Like caring for a nonexistent being.

There is nothing weird about it. Some people don't think like you do and don't just see pixels. It is like telling people they are weird for displaying certain emotions while watching a movie which is obviously not real either. Don't you ever display a single emotion watching a movie, playing a game, reading a book?

There are plenty of gamers who have a hard time killing something which looks cute (what is cute is a matter of opinion but it is often non-aggressive animals or most young animals). For example, in AC3 I had a hard time killing beavers (I still killed them anyway) because of the sound they made and how they were trying to flee the scene and failing to do so. It is a sensory perception. Maybe you can turn this off but not everyone can. It is not weird, it is human to have emotions, pixels or not. If we wouldn't care about nonexistent beings I believe we as humans wouldn't even have any type of entertainment. Why care, it is all make believe anyway.

Now, I have no problem being able to kill the foxbeings, but I also have zero problems with it being completely optional (as it having no part in the main questline).

Also, why should it matter that people have issues killing wildlife? Not sure what it is to anyone. I don't need to hunt for my food. And even if I am forced to do so if something goes horribly wrong in real life, then maybe but probably not. I am perfectly fine with the realization that hunting is just not for me and may never be for me. Nobody needs to justify him/herself for having issues with hunting. At the same time I do eat meat. Yes, I am a hypocrite but I am one by choice. As long as I don't have to do the killing, nor have to see it I will continue to eat meat because I happen to love meat. I am glad I don't have to make the choice between having to kill in order to eat meat or not eat meat at all. Not needing to make that choice is one of the perks of living in this day and age. In games I feel the same way. I do think twice about killing "innocent" wildlife or cattle. It is just the way I am wired and I just doubt I am the only one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

And yes, at the same time a lot of us can kill humans in the games we play but this can have different reasons. It could be because of the Uncanny Valley and humans not quite looking realistic enough yet in games. Or it could be that some of us only care about something which looks like it can't defend itself, ie a baby or young animal. It is good for you that you may not have this emotion though but others do. It is not weird, it is just different from how you approach games.

Well, in real life you get save the pandas campaigns, and outcries against hunting baby seals.  I'm of the opinion that a large part of this is because of the cuteness each animal has for a lot of people (not all).

But ain't that the saddest thing? Caring more for pandas and baby seals than for children starving in africa?

Geez, i don't say : goo and kill'em all, but why all this controversial now and especial in a field where  it's standart  for more than 20 years: digital media knonw as "games"?

No one ever felt bad for all the Koopa-Tropers, rats, bats and all the other stuff that players killed or hunted in games back then. So why now?

And still i want to express that it's about something that never really lived - other than real life animals: game models. If it wasn't a fox but a deer or bugbear, would the outcry be the same? Is that all what matters: Cuteness?

And there i thought i had a vivid fantasy, but ok.  I can see the logic in there... even though i never experienced tis kind of fondness with a fictional animal.

Alright, that's fair.  Maybe i'm not as sensible as you guys or i can only empathise with humans but i get your point. It seem high-end graphic has it's downside for some. Somehow i find that amusing.

Well i guess in some way every human is a hypocrite but... this "innocent" feels still like a misplaced term  to mel Like, how do you divide between innocent and not innocent? When is it alright to kill these formal "innocents"? Where's the border?  Yeah, it's mostly a personal thing but it's because of this that this term feels too vague to me.

Reminds me of a quote from captain america 2 movie: "If they shoot at you, they're the bad guys". Ah well, if only the world would be always just this easy...

Anyway you made yurself clear and i can understand and follow your argumentation. I guess overall it just comes down that - to me - it seems and feels wrong to care morefor "cute","innocent" animals than for humans.  Reminds me of an oooold gag i heard back in schooldays : What does the captain of a sinking greenpeace ship shout? Everyone  to the lifeboats! Pandas, Koalas, white tigers, gorillas, chimps (and so on) first, then women and children. I didn' laugh back then and i don't laugh now.

Emotions are not always that logical. I think it really is mostly about defenselessness, I doubt many players would enjoy killing children in a game like this either (although I am sure some would). I don't think it's really about caring about humans less.

Has anyone here stated that they are "caring more for pandas and baby seals than for children starving in africa?"

If you don't understand why people might not want to kill cute creatures, I think it's best for you to simply concede that "you don't understand" because continuing to post in this thread doesn't come across as any sort of attempt to understand, but rather to tell other people that you feel their priorities are wrong.  It's okay to not understand or to not relate with their position.

After reading the OP I do have a question:  What would you (or anyone) think about buying said skins from Foxes from venders around the world to get your crafting done?  Would you still be upset over someone else hunting them or would you be comfortable as long as you weren't the one doing the hunting?

Yeap. Killing cute animals like the foxes are overrated.

I mean killing them is too easy.

Why kill and destroy when you can manipulate or delude or control  ?

I would rather use the foxes as spies and agents. Mind control their puny brains and send them out to observe. Something like biological surveillance drones.

Or

Booby trap the foxes with dangerous and virulent traps or and then send them out to a place that we want to take over.

I mean these are much more useful than pelt skinning.

Use them as guards for your keep. :P Red Templars sneak up on your keep from the rear, you see them coming, unleash the foxes! BOOM

Ideally, the foxes would just be background detail, and fox skins wouldn't be in the stores because they aren't needed for anything.

But being able to buy them would be an acceptable compromise. In real life I wouldn't buy them, because I wouldn't want to encourage the fur industry. But, despite what other people are saying, I am aware that Inquisition is a video game, and no animals are being harmed.

Dragonkiller at your service.

For the loot, the fame, the xp, and the fun.

And the way it fought back did not really seem that... innocent. In the and it was me or him... and since i don't like to relaod it had to be him.

I'd buy them. For me it's more about the gut wrenching pitiful noise these kind of animals tend to make when you hit them, think of the mabari you have to kill and that whine they makes. I will kill them if they attack, but would rather have the option to purchase pelts instead.
