Well, children have no empathy. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they can't act. It's not their fault though, empathy comes later in mental development.

Actually that's not true.  Babies and small toddlers lack the ability to emphathise.  In older toddlers and children it will vary.  Most children by the age of 6 have developed some form of empathy response.  Children can show it as early as 18 months but its limited in scope as they haven't yet developed the ability to understand their own or others mental states (usually aged 4).

There are obviously some very talented child actors.

At first I was like   but then I was like :crying: and that line at the end about him getting to see a sword up close real soon...you are cruel cruel people BioWare!

But yes, DA:O had great kid voices!

I know. :crying:

And yep, one more aspect in which DA:O trumps DA2.

Actually that's not true.  [...]

Thanks for that much needed post. Went into greater detail than I would have bothered to do.

yeah. having real children do the voices of bart and lisa simpson has helped that show immensely.

...

what? the voice "actor" for bart simpson is a 56 year old woman? the woman who voices lisa is ~50?

june foray is almost 100 years old, isn't she? for most of her career she played characters as young as cindy lou who and as old as the generic granny character in... whatever.

If the adult VA is a good actor and can actually sound like a child then great! Win/win! However if they sound like Walter and Cricket and every other "child" from DA2 then it's a problem. I would much rather have a child NPC voiced by an actual child even if they aren't a super amazing actor (Skyrim) than have a jarring adult/fake voice like DA2 (and the acting still wasnt great...)

Of course it's not true. I thought endorsing Ron Perlman as a child actor one response up was context enough.
