Hi everyone.

I am wanting some information on the Bladesinger kit.

I have been soloing an elven blade-singer and have just killed Greywolf.

I have been finding that so far the kit  has been a little overpowered, but wonder if that continues to be the case as time goes on.

What are peoples views on the kit?

I could always make it a bit harder by installing SCS.

I like the concept, but don't like the spell casting system that much.

I think the real issue is that bg1 was not designed to be played by any kit.

If you want a truly overpowered kit, try this: http://www.gibberlings3.net/geomantic/. Thought sorcerers were op? Believe me, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Where did you download this bladesinger kit? Hard to say if it's OP without seeing the description...

I'm assuming Grim is referring to the old TDD-kit:

Blade Singer (Fighter/Mage) Advantages:
  • Can achieve grand mastery with any 1-handed blade
  • Has a permanent +1 damage and accuracy modifier
  • Has the ability to Disarm. This is a bare-handed ability that knocks the target's weapon out of his hands. Disarming can be attempted for 2 rounds.
  • Can parry(improves his chance of avoiding attacks when casting)
Disadvantages:
  • Must be elven
  • Despite the fact that most fighter mages can still wear any armour albeit that wearing it disables casting, a bladesinger can wear no more than studded leather or elven chain and even when wearing that they can't cast spells.
  • Has fighting skills in 1-handed weapon style. 1-handed style is the tradition of the blade singer
  • Receives an decrease in spell casting time penalty
  • Has no spell pick at creation
  • Due to the fact that a blade singer chooses his life weapon early on, a weapon can only receive more than 2 slots in proficiencies upon creation where it can receive 5. After creation, when leveling up he shall be able to add only 2 stars to a weapon and if the weapon already has 2 or more stars then it can have no more. The blade singer must choose his weapon of choice early.

The Bladesinger is a highly admired elven warrior who, from youth, chooses a particular type of bladed, one-handed weapon, and then concentrates all his effort upon learning it. This, however, takes away from other traditional warrior skills. This unique focus on a single weapon allows the bladesinger to parry attacks. And this, combined with his famous ability to cast several low level mage spells and his increased reaction rate, makes the Bladesinger a force to be reckoned with in combat. Also, spell casting in melee combat can be achieved during a period of parrying. His spell casting is a huge advantage, but his casting time is slightly slower than that of a pure mage.

IIRC, it's essentially a multiclass f/m that levels like a singleclass fighter. Kit has a few drawbacks - like slower casting time and fewer spells - but it's obviously overpowered. Any self respecting player should play this kit on insane and with both Tactics AND SCS installed:)

Wow, a disadvantage of only being able to get grandmastery on character creation (when your not supposed to have grandmastery in anything anyway)?

Kinda odd that they'd make a kit so closely overlapping the F/M's role.

Most kit mods seem to have done this with variants on the theme of kensai or archer or cavalier or whatnot, though even the vanilla game berserker and barbarian are a bit too similar: There just aren't that many unfilled roles in a party (or lack of choices for soloing) that a new kit has ever added much to the game, IMO anyway.

I see your point, but if you want a kit in Amn, it means having a kit in BG unless you play vanilla which I found had become too predictable for me.

I had Dark Horizons installed which I have now uninstalled. That mod gave him Elven Chain so he could cast whilst wearing it. Dark Horizons was I think my main problem. Whilst the Dark Horizons assassins are tough and you need good equipment to fight them, the equipment that it gives unbalances the rest of the game.

Yeah, the group at the bridge to BG. They're tough, but they drop 4 sets of Elven Chain (one set is even Elven Chain +3, iirc). It's a bit much at that stage of the game. You can even use cheese against that group (provided you have a Wand of Paralyzation) and get the armour at lvl 1.

My Bladesinger couldn't se all those coats of mail, but if I remember rightly, it was the mail+3 that he could use.
