I think what Anders did was far minor considering the what the Chantry has been doing to the mages.

Anders killed an old woman who had been keeping the Templars from killing the mages. A woman who encouraged a peaceful resolution to the problem. This act lead to the death of every single mage in the Kirkwall circle. This was not what they wanted, but Anders took that choice away from them just like you say the Chantry does. No vote was taken, no input from the other Mages considered. Anders just did what he wanted and got them all killed.

That makes him no better than those who oppress the mages.

I find it fascinating how you heap all the past actions of Templars on Elithina when her own actions show that she was sympathetic to the Mages. I also love how you rail against the Chantry when it was the Chantry’s desire for a peaceful resolution and leniency towards mages that lead the Templars to abandon the Chantry in order to hunt mages without constraint. Come to think of it, you’d make a fine Templar since you decided that Elthina deserves to die simply because she’s attached to the Chantry. Heck you a Meredith should get along just fine since you both see evil in a person where none exist. Meredith sees it in mages and you appear to see it in those who work for the Chantry.

I am amazed at the number of people that try to justify Anders actions by villifying the Grand Cleric

I don't justify anything, I absolutely believe what Anders did was wrong, I'm amazed you got that impression by one sentence.

I just think she could have done more instead of believing in Meredith and Orsino. Their issue escalated multiple times and I don't think she should have allowed it to continue, even if there wasn't much she could do, turning a blind eye and refusing to do everything in your power so it "works itself out" is foolish.

Wasn't talking about you specifically, but I've seen people on this forum work hard to justify actions that can not be justified.

She refused to take sides because she knew how much weight her words could carry, that they could be used to justify a conflict that would harm the people of the city. She states that her goal was to balance the needs of both sides....and admitted that her power over the Templars was not as great as some would claim. A point that is proven when the Templars break away from the Chantry.

Templars: (To the Chantry) "Here I stand with the swords, and you with contract, we'll see which prevails."

Heck I would offer him a $1000 to make a thread saying that Meredith is a better character than Anders.

A thread can be buried. Put it in his signature.

And that would be when it's time to take it to the next person on the ladder and get something done. An over emotional Knight-Commander and a desperate First Enchanter feeling cornered in, nothing can be fixed at that point, at least not without the help of a third party.

Only thing I regret is not being able to plant the bomb myself. Anders did Kirkwall a favor in aiding in its subsequent implosion. As we all know, Kirkwall is hell on earth.

Yeah... If there is one thing Kirkwall really NEEDS then it is the further destabilization of its already fragile Veil.... Great thinking Emissary! I'm sure all the Kirkwallers, current and future, will be eternally greatful to Anders...

I would rather undergo the rite of tranquility then to do something like that. Oh the horrors that would be.

seriously, after what happened in kirkwall, any sane person would have left hawke to be viscount of the city by him/herself

If Hawke was sane enough after dealing with Kirkwall, he would've escaped from the city with his companions, or became Viscount only to kick the Templar's out and give his mages from his city freedom. The Templar's there are the biggest problem that the city has. The former Viscount had balls enough to try to evict the Templars out. At least he died trying.

Meh. If someone really offers me 200 bucks for changing my avatar or signature (I doubt anyone here would really give you money), I'd do it. An avatar isn't really that important.

Maybe so, but I'm sure there will always be someone willing to fill his shoes to carry out the Rite of Tranquility.

Obama already has that honor... in fact he made it a tad bit more interesting when he is greeted by foreign leaders in the whitehouse.
