The Chantry has had...exactly how many Exalted Marches since its creation? Seven? I think. So, yes, you can see, even if you don't take the mages into consideration, that the Chantry has condoned and committed violence on a very large scale.

So? Nations on Earth have fought in several wars. Does that mean we should punish those of the nations who had nothing to do with it?

Not to mention Exalted Marches are not actions but reactions to threats.

So with that mindset Meredith was right with invoking the RoA. Awesome.

Yeah she was, everybody is right. ;)

No but seriously, that's a completely rational action if you are a mundane in power - kill mages, they are a threat.

Yeah it even draws a false conclusion that being a member of a group automatically makes you a violent member of said group, way to point out the flawed logic.

It doesn't matter if you yourself are violent. You are aiding and abetting violence. Under our modern legal system, you would be considered an accessory to it, unless you could prove that you were genuinely unaware of the group's violent nature.

Yes, it's a totally acceptable "reaction" to completely destroy a city and force an entire ethnic group to either live in slums or wander the earth as nomads.

...So has every major religion and nation in the world.

That doesn't make it right.

Anyways..

I look forward to DAI making nothing out of the Templar/Mage war, and realizing I wasted time thinking about this nonsense.

No doubt, the torn Veil will be like the Reapers, uniting everyone against a common cause.

And if not, people in Thedas are more stupid than I thought.

The difference being that people are born into nations but choose to join religions.

Which way of life are you referring to? I think the Chantry is up for interpretation. If you really want to change "minds" about it, you plant different ideas about the chantry. Present a new way of life. Not just blow stuff up. Ideas must be met with better ideas. Blowing things up doesn't accomplish much, except get everyone pissed and your friends killed in retaliation and war.

Magic vs mundanes, chant of light, exalted marches, marriage, you know all that jazz, I'm sure there's a lot more chantry involvement in each day life. To present a new way of life you still have to destroy the old way, no one way is better than another, so preaching that your way is better is just a lie.

No, don't be dumb.

How many times do I have to explain that being born with a trait you can't help is not at all on the same moral plane as willingly choosing to join a violent organisation?

Lmao because joining a church based off of your religious beliefs is immoral.

No, don't be an ignoramus

Or it doesn't have enough time to reach everybody and get everybody worked up. You know like maybe Tevinter vs Par Vollen war: ''Huh, the veil tear? Nah, haven't heard. CHARGE!''

Nah, people are also born into religious families, and most people stay2. Also you can change your nation as well.

Yeah the chantry doesn't have a particularly violent nature, authoritarian sure but force is typically used as a last result save for a few who abuse their authority. Your assessment makes it seem like you feel a police department and a street gang are the same thing.

Do you not understand that the stated goal of the Chantry is world domination???

If your religious beliefs are immoral, then yes, joining a religion based on those beliefs is ****** immoral.

It's not necessary a lie. For example, Andraste's words could be as interpreted as more well meaning. "Magic must serve man.." doesn't necessarily mean what it's become today. In her day, it was a condemnation of the magisters using the blood of slaves to fuel their spells. Not a sanction for people like Alrik. Another side issue is the legacy of Shartan. Bringing him up and correcting the Chantry wouldn't be a "lie". It'd be making them recognize the truth, and that they need to rekindle their relationship with the elves.

But bombs aren't getting anywhere. I assure you. Watch some documentaries on Somalia or something. It's pathetic once a large group of people can't get out of a cycle of violence. It's not sexy or romantic or heroic.

Where was this stated?

Please show me the codex that says The Chantry is seeking world domination.

Also, you can chill with the dramatic emphasis.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT

And who decides what constitutes "abuse"? Why, the Chantry does. Funny how that works.

No, police and street gangs aren't the same thing. The stated goal of the police is to maintain order, while the goal of street gangs is to dominate a territory through violence.

The Chantry falls much closer to the latter category.

yup. Kirkwall seems to be controlled by the Chantry... since the nobility must have Templar's approval prior to becoming Viscount.

Yeah, those peaceful missionaries going to new places are totally going to "dominate a territory through violence".

Well, this is from the Wiki:

The Chantry's goal is to spread the Chant of Light to all four corners of the world, that includes non-humans as well. The view of the Chantry on non-humans is that they need saving—they have turned even further from the Maker's grace than humanity has.

Immigration and Emigration say hi.

LOL.

You think anybody can just move to another country whenever the **** they want?

It's an extremely lengthy and expensive process, and that's not even counting the physical effort involved in actually hauling your ass to another country. And before we had immigration laws, we didn't have planes, so people had to ****** walk, and carry all their possessions on their back.

What kind of sheltered bubble do you live in, that you think that immigration is easy, even in this day and age?
