I think the mage outfit is fine, though IMO the rogue outfit is pretty terrible.
Concerns over mage gear.

Huh, complete opposite over here.

Huh, complete opposite over here.
The pauldrons, gauntlets and helmet just seem to completely contradict the pretty much leather armour otherwise. But obviously YMMV.
I really like the rogue armour on the right-hand side of the forum, though (assuming the picture shows up for everyone), so who knows, it might just be the angle that doesn't work for me.

I really love the mage champion armour from DAII, as well as the mage version of the Weisshaupt regalia, so those two styles are welcome to stay. I've not been very impressed with what mage clothing we've been shown for Inquisition so far, but I'm sure there are other, better designs that will be shown later. Fingers crossed. Also, may we never again get mage gear like the one we unlocked in Mark of the Assassin (basicallly a Chantry robe). *shudders*
I actually have a funny story about mage gear in DAO: When I first started playing, I had no idea what any of the stats meant, but I looked at a piece of armour, saw "12 defence" and thought, "that sounds kind of good, right?", and put it on my Warden rogue. The visuals looked kind of odd to me, but since the style of the game was completely new to me I thought that maybe that was just how Bioware rolled. It wasn't until my Warden began jumping around in battle that I realized how completely ridiculous he looked! When I found the mage's camp at Ostagar and realized that the robe was actually for mages, I couldn't get out of it fast enough. Ah, good times! ![]()

I think what your mage wears should depend slightly on your specialties... combat heavy? Have some armor... Blood mage? Have some slightly tattered and dark looking clothing and such. Healer, be in regular robes.

I have to say I have a particular soft spot for the robes of the notorious pirate getup for Hawke in DA2. It looks like something a rogue would wear. Its stats don't fare well later in the game, but it looks fitting for an adventurer-grade character. It's simple and to the point, but most importantly, it's not a robe at all.
(substitute the gloves and boots for something more subtle and you get the picture)

Wait, what's the problem with Mage Hawke's left arm? It looks to me no different proportion-wise from the other arm, it's just you can't tell since that one was completely covered with tons of armour?
And since the Mage is spinning that staff around all the time, are you telling me that they wouldn't end up being just as jacked as the warrior?

Especially since DA2 finally allows you to actually hit your enemies with the staff.

Yeah, I always wished we'd been able to use the staff as a melee weapon in Origins. One point in DA2's favour is that it at least made Mages physically more badass, since they no longer responded to getting hit by impotently using the same basic attack, but by smacking the hell out of their enemy with the blade or club on the end.
I hope that we keep that mechanic in Inquisition, since it was a vast improvement.

That picture of the Mage and outfit reminds me of Prince the musician the way he's dressed almost expect the Mage to start singing Purple Rain, hehe.
I like my Mages wearing some light Armor usually chain shirt and studded leather while wearing a cloak with a hood, a belt with component pouches and either a dagger or wand. Staff just screams "MAGE" to anyone who walks by!
While staff is nice for it's purpose for battle, I prefer a more subtle approach to my Mage style, kinda like a Arcane Shadow Mage not necessarily a rogue but a Mage adept at blending in shadow's to gather information and able to cast illusions to ward off suspicion from passerby's.

Didn't like the skirts. Loved the champion armor. My femHawke looked like a segregated malnourished librarian in most of the other clothes. The mage champion armor has the best design in the whole game imo.
I really hope they'll let us edit the Inquisitor's body in DAI.

I'm usually not too picky about armor design personally. There's usually someone who makes some sort of custom skin for people who are dissatisified with vanilla anyway.

Mage champion armor was horrible. I put it on Hawke once and decided that he will never wear that hobo outfit again. Only thing that monstrosity was missing was a cart full of empty canns.
Old school mage are the best, black hooded robe with silver runes on the sleeves. Raistlin Majere style.

No one would end up jacked if they had to actually fight like medieval warriors, because muscles don't really work that way.

It's not his style. I took this pic to illustrate his outfit, don't know why it has a bit shady looking look.

Ripped, nope. Extremely low body fat and thin skin are only obtainable through hgh, diuretics and the like.
Big, sure, provided they eat enough. Not steroid-big, but decent. Mage hawke's arm was alright.

for people under the age of 65, a robe is something you wear for a short period of time after you get out of the shower. i guess robes are the garment of choice at a spa. also, a robe might be appropriate attire if you plan on lounging indolently at the playboy mansion. so, unless da:i has the protagonist taking a ridiculous number of showers or he is questing in day spas or the playboy mansion, i see no reason to include robes as any sort of adventuring attire.
ps technically, "he" can be gender neutral in English, so i am not being sexist when i say, "he is questing." on the other hand, insisting on using feminine pronouns to apply to both genders, or awkwardness such as "he or she" is... crude.

I said this in my original post, but when it comes to robes i'd love something like Orsino (which is the only robe so far in the DA series I've liked)

I also think Star Wars can be used as great inspiration for good mage robe designs. Keep in mind that I say inspiration, directly copying them would look out of place but as a foundation I think they look good.

I was doodling today and thought of my ideal dual wielding mage/rogue armor.
I was thinking it was created by the spirit of valor inside the fade.

My biggest takeaway from that picture is that the Inquisitor from the trailer is totally a rogue this time.
