Garrus and Tali: Why are they popular romance options?

While checking out fan comments all over the internet, I noticed that perhaps the most popular romance options are:

Garrus for femShep

Tali for manShep

I've always wondered why exactly is that?

I think part of the reason is that the scenes for both characters are somewhat awkward and dare I say cute. Another could probably be because of how ridiculous they are. I mean, Garrus's biology is incompatible with Shepard's and Tali's immune system is so weak that even a kiss could be fatal, so theorettically they would never happen, yet the option is still there for the players to experience and it was very well executed.

Do you guys have any ideas why these two romance options are so popular?

If you check out tumblr, ff.net, or ao3 it is Garrus+Femshep in lead (they are practically engaged in ME3) and Liara+Manshep in the lead.

My guess is that Turians gots big pp's and asari are hot.

Note that throughout all 3 games:

Garrus is optional in ME1 not optional in ME2 or ME3 and can die on SM in ME2 or crucible run in ME3

Liara is not a squadmate in ME2 and not optional in ME1 or ME3 and can die on crucible run in ME3

Tali is optional in ME2 and ME3 and will be dead if you did not recruit her in ME2, can die on SM, can commit suicide on Rannoch, or die on cruicible run in ME3

Garrus and Liara are most popular with both genders.

BTW In reality humans (read recent biology studies) are actually levo (mostly) and dextro (minorly but by absolute necessity to properly function) and would not have any issues with dextros bodily fluids or their foods at all!  In fact femshep would be less likely to contract an illness from Garrus than say Thane or Jacob.  :D

Another reason is that they're companions for all three games, so Shepard/the player gets to know them pretty well by the end.

Going by Garrus's dialogue in the Citadel DLC, it must be his voice. For Tali I imagine it is a combination of hot bod and personality.

Meh, body wise,  asari  and miranda beat tali any day. As for voice, Thane beats Garrus by a landslide. I'm still wondering what makes turians, in general, yes all turians, attractive to the ladies. If you dare, read the turian fanfiction, you will never be the same.

I hope they let us customize female body shape in ME4, so my black femshep can be little in the middle with a lotta back B) ...ain't fair that quarians get to be a corset fetishists wetdream.

For you perhaps, but a lot of people find the calamari space smurfs less attractive and many dislike Miranda for her cold personality ;)

I agree with Geth47 on most things, except for the virginity part. Not all guys are obsessed with virginity and that was honestly the least thing I cared about with Tali or Liara. But everyone is different I s'pose.

So I have differing opinions of beauty and I certainly hope the game hasn't distorted your view of human females. But I  am certain your attraction to Tali is more than a waist that (depending on Tali's uniform) is equivalent or 2 inches in diameter smaller than a human or asari or a face that is drawn to look like a night elf or 13 year old with flaxen hair or ya know a supermodel.

You are way too defensive about an animated piece of behind

Haha, oh no don't take my comments too seriously, they're not meant to be. I'm not the kind of person so into a game that it would affect any of their views on anything in real life and yes I do realize that Quarian figure is quite ludicrous. This is a sci-fi videogame after all and it's hard to compare video game characters with real people.

The one problem I have with Asari is the tentacles, but to each his/her own.

I think the reason Garrus is so popular is not only his voice (DAMNN!) but he grows with you through the games as a friend first before he becomes romanceable.  It's a slower build up and one that feels more natural.  He's even pretty decent if change your mind romance wise.  I was ok with Thane but his trippy visions weirded me out and then the less said about his sad ending the better.  Jacob, well I can't say he did a lot for me and the semi-creepy way FemShep talked to him finished me off.

Physically turians reflect the broad shoulder/chest and narrow hips shape that is attractive to females so they've got a better chance of appealing to a human female than say a krogan who looks more like a giant shell-less snapping turtle.

They are not popular romance options, the most popular is Liara in ME1 and Miranda in ME2, from what I recall. Tali and Garrus are only popular online from what I can see.

It makes sense, Liara is great in me1 and miranda, dat ass...
