If "next-gen" edition of ME: Trilogy is being created, release it for PC as well!

Just wanting to voice my opinion...

If BioWare is planning on releasing new editions of the Mass Effect Trilogy for next-gen systems, including PS4 and XBox One, I really hope they will re-release the trilogy (call it "Remastered Edition" or "Definitive Edition" or something) for PC.  We PC gamers are some of the biggest fans of the series, and yet, we often get left out in the cold by publishers.  Eidos recently released the "Tomb Raider Definitve Edition," but they chose to neglect the PC community, the original platform for the Tomb Raider series.

Please, BioWare and EA, if you choose to update the series, don't forget your fans on PC.  Mass Effect is my all-time favorite video game franchise, and I know that many of us would re-buy the entire trilogy if you allow us to.

Thanks for your time, and feel free to leave constructive feedback.

To be fair, PC gamers have the option of playing the original games at 8K resolution, if they are so inclined. Tomb Raider is a unique exception because it isn't just an HD re-release, they actually changed a small bit of graphics. My guess is, if this ME trilogy is re-released it will simply be at 1080p, 60 fps without any new content being added. So I don't think PC users would be missing anything that isn't already currently available.

Here is a link to what ME looks like in 8k resolution, http://www.reddit.co..._mass_effect_2/

PC gamers can play these games at 1080p, 2K, 4K, or 8K. Frankly, I think 8K is a bit ridiculous, but it is an option for PC gamers.

The point I wanted to make is that the official textures from BioWare are unfortunately low-res in certain situations.  If BioWare is simply updating textures, then I am asking that they release the best textures possible to the PC users as well, perhaps in the form of a patch.  The same could be said for character models with higher polygon counts.

If they make engine improvements (which I suspect they would have to do) for the next-gen systems, it would be awesome if they would make these updates in the PC version as well.  This would unlikely be able to be done in a patch, since an engine upgrade would essentially require all assets to be repackaged, replaced, or updated.  The best approach here would be to handle it as CDProjekt RED did for "The Witcher" and "The Witcher 2."  They released a MASSIVE "patch" that essentially replaced most of the game.  However, most publishers are not as awesome and would be more inclined to release it as a "new" game, forcing users to rebuy it.  If this is the case for Mass Effect, I would totally re-buy it, if it includes all DLC content.

To be honest, I always think PC gamers as ungrateful and greedy guys. Even if their PC Master Race is always better than consoles, they spent their time on constant nagging. Don't get me wrong, I'm a PC gamer. I also own PS3 and PS4.

I have a feeling that a lot of PC gamers are PC gamers because they can't afford to own a PS3 and PS4.

I know I am.

I don't see how requesting that my favorite game series get released on my platform of choice is ungrateful or greedy.  I'm just stating that I would pay for a re-release of the trilogy...

I choose to play games on PC because of the huge library of available titles, the ability to play classic games, and the affordability of games, thanks to less restrictive means of distribution.

Anyway, I stand by my original statement.  If the games are going to be remastered, I hope they do it on all next-generation platforms, including PC.

Bioware are currently working on Dragon Age Inquisition and ME4, do you really think the PS4 version is gonna be anything other than a direct port of the PC version? EA won't pour resources into creating a 3rd Bioware team just to re-release old content. They're gonna do a cheap and nasty cross-over.

Really? I upgraded my PC last year and it cost over £1,000; if anything I'd say it was the other way around.

If they do release the game for the new consoles I really doubt they are going to update it at all, for they will farm the work out to a smaller developer that specializes in ports, so there wouldn't be any new content or changes to the graphics or gameplay.  At the end I think it would be mostly the console players being able to play the games at a level that PC users have been all along.

errr... personally I hope they don't and have no interest in it. Concentrate on ME4. The only reason I would be interested in it is if there was some significant upgrade to multiplayer.

Just polishing the graphics a little isn't enough imho, both ME1 and ME2 need some gameplay redesign. Generic Mako driving and endless planet scanning anyone?

It is has new content I would agree but all it is is a port bringing it closer to PC quality. Tomb Raider is just an updated light engine they plan on using in their next title. Also updated face nothing more.

They can re-release it but nothing will be different.

I hope they don't release it for XB1 and PS4. Pour as many resources as you can in DA:I, NME and the new IP they are supposed to be working on. Maybe in the next couple years after we see those three games out then go back and remake older games. Or new ones, like Jade Empire 2. :D

Wouldnt it be super easy to do? The game is already on PC and a re-release to x86 architecture based consoles as well as new PCs should be super cheap and quick no?

It seems people are a tad confused about ports.

Most ports, especially ports that release much much later from initial release, are almost always handled by a third party. Mass Effect for the PC and PS3 for example was handled by Demiurge Studios and Edge of Reality respectively. Bioware developed the game for Xbox 360 and then hired these studios to handle the porting process.

It wouldn't be a 'massive undertaking' or take a ridiculous amount of resources away from Mass Effect 4 or DA: Inquisition. It just takes hiring a 3rd party and giving them the source code.

What it comes down to is: Is it worth spending some money to port a 2 year old trilogy that most people have already played to another console. Is there a profit?

I would love to see the mass effect trilogy released on PS4, personally, only if it had ALL the DLC. Hell, I'd just like to see the DLC lowered in price across all platforms really.

I agree a basic port won't be a "massive undertaking", but some of the wishlists I have seen in this thread would make it that way.

You know, for the PC I'd rather see them release an update to the client allowing for texture mods to be easily put into place to allow for increased texture detail...

No scratch that, I'd rather have a client that supports the latest DirectX for those with newer PCs & also support DirectX 9 for those still running Windows XP and have the ability to pull from different textures for different levels of graphic resolutions.
