In DAO, Leliana had a lot of cognitive dissonance. Do you think she has resolved her issues? I would be disappointed if she has.

She works that out if you harden her in DOA

Can you go into detail?

To some degree, but i have no doubt we'll see the bubbly quirky side of her personality as well.

Probably changes considering whether or not you hardened her.

i'd say she has gotten over that, even if she wasn't hardened. Basically because she's working for the divine as a bard, she can be both.

I disgress, as your post makes more sense when looking from the perspective of your avatar  :P

From reading DA Assunder and The Masked Empire she has definitely found her place in the world and has come to terms with who and what she is. So no, there will likely be very little internal conflict coming from her. But i could be wrong, i often am.

It's been ten years. Yes, I suspect she's resolved much of it.

She seems to have resolved them in favour of being a bard for the chantry - doing what she loves for a cause she believes in. Pretty good compromise.

Indeed it is. Still, I hope that her hardened/unhardened state effects her reactions and recommendations in DA:I such as beleiving more or less adamantly in her religion.

She was a pretty big heretic in DA:O, so I'm not sure how good a representative of the Chantry she is going to be in DA:I. That said, I do hope her being hardened affects her approach to moral outcomes in DA:I.

Speaking of (spoilers for asunder), was anyone else surprised to see her as pro-mage as she was? In da2 she seemed to be very much the traditionalits...although that may well have been part of the cover.Dorothea does not seem to type to lead an exalted march on kirkwall. A bit relieved, as I was worried this would doom her relationship with my mage!warden.

I mean I doubt either Leliana or the Divine favour the dissolution of the circle, but they both seem to recognize it needed considerable reform.

No, not really.

It is possible their opinions have changed in three years.  After further investigating the situation, they could have concluded that Meredith was mostly responsible for what happened in Kirkwall and decided their stance on the mages needed to be revised.

No, Leliana has never seemed to be especially concerned with mages. She even denies that the chantry would kill a blood mage girl if she would become a priest.

She didn't seem to be very traditionalist in DA2, she just seemed opposed to one group of violent secessionist mages and thought Kirkwall was a disaster.

I would imagine hardening her would make her more confused .. or maybe not. I dunno.

My sister and I don't know what you're talking about.

She seems to have resolved them in favour of being a bard for the chantry - doing what she loves for a cause she believes in. Pretty good compromise.

I'd be sad if there wasn't still some conflict there. That's what I liked about Leiliana.

Not really. The thing with DA2 and her other appearances in the books is that she has to work for the Divine. She may agree more or less with her orders, but until those orders reach the moral event horizon for her, she will follow them. Tha same as in the game, really. "Leliana disapproves".

In The Masked Empire there was a situation like that, but not with mages, but elves:

Spoiler

So, yeah, one thing is Leliana's job, and another is her personal opinion about these matters.

I just want to cuddle her and say "It's all right now. You can finally be who you really are. You don't have to play by their rules anymore."

I don't disagree that there should be conflict for characters - that makes them interesting - but what form would it take for Leliana without making it seem like she hasn't grown in 10 years?

maybe a conflict with the inquisitor between "What is right" vs "What is needed"

Are you sure she won't have to do it again? The Inquisitor will become her new boss, and depending on the decisions he or she takes she may have to put a facade again.

In DA:O it looked as if Leliana wanted to please everyone. She wanted to be the perfect little bard for Marjolaine, the perfect sister in the Chantry, the perfect helper for the Warden, the perfect Sister Nightingale for Divine Justinia. Who says she won't try to be the perfect spy-master for the Inquisitor, regardless of personal opinions?
