I think if there's going to be any complaints, it's the extraneous traits of "virgins" that give it a bad name. Not the idea of virginity itself. I think many virginal characters come across as infantile. Which can be very annoying in a companion, whether you romance them or not.

Virgins are not infantile (not necessarily), but if you look at the ones in Bioware games, they mostly are. Tali, Liara, Merrill all have the innocent/cutesy/"kawai" thing going on. Alistair is just a big grown up boy. So he's infantile in a different way. Especially if you overhear him talking to Wynne.. he's very dependent, asks her to wash his clothes in an overly pouty way.. it's kind of sad.

Great point. I totally agree. People in real life who are virgins are just regular people like everyone else. Sex isn't this magical thing that suddenly makes you wise and grown up.

I guess those examples attempt to play up to some kind of fantasy.

Yeah the extent that Bioware appears to go with it can be silly. It's not like virginity = stunted emotional development :S

EDIT: I WILL say that those few without any sort of sexual activity at alllll, *can* have some forms of slowed emotional development (I'm speaking from experience here, but no, not myself), but it still likely wouldn't be such a clear aspect of their character. Yeah, BW likes to make their innocent virgins, even if not intentionally.

I would love someone with the attitude of Isabella. That'd be neat.

On the flipside, I roleplayed my own Dalish Warden as a virgin. But she was still a huntress. Kind of had a whole badass "Artemis" thing going on.

For males, there was Sir Galahad. King Arthur's most badass knight. He's nothing like Alistair. Virgins can be any number of archetypes.

Can't, currently too preggers to go out. BTW I am a lesbian who got pregnant via artificial means (never been with a guy). That must make me promiscuous, immoral, and a deviant

I find this whole desire for a virgin thing very creepy. Seems to be an exclusively male thing too; suspect it comes down to power and control mixed with some insecurity.
Just my take on it.

I remember my first time (also with someone who was a virgin). God that was awkward for both of us, fumble-o-rama.
Got bonus points though for her being a committed Christian (as it turned out that commitment only lasted in the day time, by night it was 'jeebus who?').

Ah, great days.

If we're talking about virginity in videogames, then I think I'll leave it to you guys.  ;)

But my original point still stands.  =]

Etiher he's trolling, or he is very young and insecure, and terrified that any experienced woman he sleeps with will think he's not up to scratch.  Not worth responding to, at any rate.

That's rather harsh considering he more or less expressed what Mes said above.

You know what's harsh when he said that virgins=pure, moral, innocent and feminists=immoral, impure and the "lowest common denominator"...then proceeded to equate me personally to the latter simply because I stated I found a preoccupation with virginity creepy (like Taliban creepy) and do not equate physical virginity with morality of character AND would not consider someone who has had one partner before moving on to their one true love or whatever as promiscuous.

It might matter in regards to STD, especialy in the past when there wern't way to test for it and there was barely any medicine for it other than liquidmercury or arsenik.

Still given the amount of prostitution and brothels in the old days, it doesn't seem to be something they cared about.

Oh I didn't know there was an anthology. But I just meant that post linked.

Lack of experience both emotionally and physicaly have always been something I disliked in characters.

This.

So for me personally, its not important at all. And I hope Bioware would never again trot out the tired old trope of the shy, awkward, and virginal LI. I prefer adult characters to live adult lives prior to meeting the player character.
