I think people are seeing more of an anti-virgin brigade than there really is. Or rather, they're seeing more of an anti-virgin attitude than I personally have at heart.

Picture a BioWare character who is a virgin, but whose virginity is just... not a big deal. The end. They don't consider it a defining characteristic, they don't make a big talking point of it, it doesn't have a huge impact on their personality, and if you keep making a big thing of it they think that's a "you" problem.

Would such a character's virginity invoke the same response we're seeing here?

For me at least, the answer is a resounding "no." I would have zero problems with a character like that. That's because virginity, in and of itself, is fairly irrelevant. It's the traits BioWare tends to confer on characters who are virgins.

Well said.

What use does a robot have in telling jokes?

Is it trying to be something it never will be? Organic. The jokes are lame if you want to call them that. It served a better purpose as a hologram than as a squadmate.

You didn't actually answer my question.

And she isn't trying to be organic. She's considering engaging in certain forms of interaction. EDI's always engaged in non-practical interactions. Sounds like you dislike all of them, but ME3's bother you more because reasons.

Problem is, developing any kind of a dynamic personality at all would automatically be considered trying to be "organic" in the sense that anything with the capacity to have one is an organic life form from the start. What I'm guessing is that some people just want EDI to be Mass Effect's version of Jarvis, even though ME2 already had her as being more than that, regardless of any mech to anthropomorphize her.

Jarvis doesn't have his own body as far as I could tell. He's only a program that helps Tony Stark out eveyonce in awhile. Yes he's an AI but thats about it in terms of deveoplment. I call him a he because Tony calls him either Jarvis, or a he.

I'm a nerd but this really is a weird thing too talk about in retrospect. It makes us look werid and patheic and desperate for someone of the opposite sex to talk to us...

Are you saying I dislike all the jokes? Is that what you're referring to? And what are the reasons that bother me about ME3?

Well, he's technically his butler. The movies made him a program though.

I think the main problem with the shy and virginal LI (particularly of the female variety) is that they are almost always presented like this:

"No, I've never even thought it about it before meeting you Captain Awesomesauce. You're just so epically amazing and dreamy...let's bang."

I don't know whether it is intentional or not but it always comes across as really bad fanservice for people using their toon as a self-insert.

What I mean is that both Jarvis and EDI serve as a bodiless helpers, but little more than that in the case of the former. In ME2, EDI could very well have been the same exact thing, but unlike Jarvis, is an actual character that develops along with everyone else.

That is when it bothers me as well. Otherwise, in a game, I don't really care.

I have to note how high-tech the pizza box looks. It even has arrows to indicate how to operate the locking apparatus.

I was looking for a gif of that dehydrated pizza from "Back to the Future," but I found this instead:

EDIT: Ah, found it!

That said, I get the sneaking suspicion we've strayed off-topic...

If done well it can be cute like Alister and Tali I loved how it played out and teasing him was really fun! But if done poorly it just seems like awkward like Liara. I wouldn't mind if they kept it or even had a male for Femhero this time maybe they can force a romance pacing by saying one must spend x amount of months in game time to get to the next romance talking session or one needs to complete x-amount the main quest or do sidequest B, F, and H to get another moment by these characters A and B.

Liara: "Hey I just met you! And this crazy. But I'm virgin. So romance me maybe!"
