Oh it's easy, all you have to do is cast a power, charge, shoot, then cast another power and then toss a grenade, easy peasy.....or you could just

STASIS

One of my favorite things in this game is catching a phantom with stasis mid flip.

Hmmm.  It seems like sometimes firing at them (especially with autos) just triggers "evade" turning on the DR and depending on the range does not guarantee that they will flip.

Can't say I've noticed this myself.

I am sure this happened the other day when I was running the Punisher on Turian Sentinel... I stupidly shot it at her before Overload, she still advanced, and Overload did partial damage to her barriers, when it will fully strip them if she has no DR.

I find it somewhat amusing that every time Phantoms are mentioned, people post very specific counters to them as though I should only ever play one setup or use one weapon.

That said, as soon as the Phantom is shot her code instantly tells her to dodge if possible and gives her the DR if it is possible to dodge.

It seems that if she actually wants to dodge or not is up to her, but she'll still get the DR as long as the "Can she dodge?" check comes back true. Obviously that whole section of code doesn't work for off-host players.

Of course as mentioned, if you can get her to flip around like a caffeine addicted space ninja it completely cripples her offensive capability.

Yep, no one has answered his question.

Does it still apply if she's dodging powers or melee? Or is it only guns?

Also is there a way around it?

Based on what I've been able to glean out of playing is that damage reduction doesn't seem to affect powers, but does affect melee. Which is just weird. Would be nice if this could be confirmed by a theorycrafting wolf nerd though.

The way around it is to kill the Phantom.

Yep, no one has answered his question.

From what I recall, and what Cyonan posted again if she checks to evade then she turns on DR.  If she then goes into a bubble, she still has DR, although on-host weapon should do direct health damage via the "bubble oddity."  If she flips, the DR briefly ends as she lands, which is the time to shoot her, especially with high damage weapons.

Staggering or ragdolling the Phantom seems to turn off DR.  Like GPS, Graal, Krogan backhand, Stasis.  If she is sitting around in cover the DR should be off.

As for whether powers should get DR, I don't know how else to explain not being able to do full damage to their barriers with Overload given that a Turian Sentinel built like mine does 3168 organic barrier damage, and it was sometimes not fully stripping Gold Phantom barriers, and this was when they also definitely getting weapon DR.

Cyonan and some others were investigating this with the old bug group, if what I wrote has some problems he can correct it.

There is no DR for this

Otherwise, I will not be of much help, other than to say shoot til she's dead and don't get shanked.

Her code in general is just really weird, but the actual check for the DR does this:

If the Phantom is currently dodging, give her the listed evade DR

Otherwise if the Phantom has her immunity shield up, give her the listed DR for that instead(which is the same as the evade DR)

Otherwise if the Phantom can dodge, give her the listed evade DR

The damage doesn't seem to discriminate between the sources of it, although in the case of the second one there is of course the bubble bug that you noted which allows us to just damage health instead with weapons fire.

In the case of the last check, it's a standard CheckEvade() function which means that a hitscan power should not trigger the evade and thus not give her any DR. If you use a hitscan power while she's already mid-dodge however, she should be getting the DR according to the code.

Cool.

That last part is what I was getting at with Overload on the TSent.  It is hitscan so it shouldn't cause her to trigger the DR, but if I fired at her with the Punisher first it had to be effected by DR because it wasn't fully stripping her barrier (unless there is some Overload bug).  Also she wasn't even flipping she was just going directly at me laughing at my low damage BPP.

But limbs, if you're getting outplayed by Bioware what hope do you have against phantoms?

The DR equally affects everything, you just won't hit phantoms with projectile powers in many instances; instant casts won't trigger the DR and will only be diminished if they hit immediately after triggering an evade move.  AoE powers (flamer, grenade AoE) will deal reduced damage if the phantom is evading or has her DR up while they are damaging her.

The phantom's evade damage scale is something ridiculous, like 0.0125 on platinum (so 1.25% of her barriers / health must be dealt with a single attack before the phantom considers evading or will evade) meaning any direct hit at all, even from a modless, ampless, passiveless predator will still trigger the evade.

Yay! An answer! :) thanks limbs and me0120 ;)

And thank you capn and cyonan, bridge burner, boogie, and anyone else who helped :)

So to clarify for anyone reading the thread and can't be bothered to look through,
Phantom DR lasts for the whole duration of when the bubble is active or when she is flipping.
All attacks are affected by the DR.
Stasis is the best way round the DR, unless you stasis her mid flip.

I do what I can to help. Even if it involves me provoking an answer out of an old dinosaur like Anno.
