" He said BioWare was determined to not be overly impressed with its own development skills by schmaltzing up the game with long, non-playable, cinematic sequences. After the prologue, players can skip over those sequences and play straight through."

As someone that will spend hours on the CC to get the right eyebrow height, I hope this means we can skip the prologue, too. ;_; I don't know how many times I've seen Shepard hobble through the Normandy in ME2.

I hope so too. That the people in Bioware are aware of the danger of being too in love with their amazing cinematic sequences is good. However, when Bioware makes a game I'm more concerned about their love for prologues.

For example, I admit that I was in awe when I played ME2 attack on the Normandy and DA2 Varric's fantasy tale... for the first time. After the third or fourth time it was painfully long and boring. Especially infuriating since you couldn't customize your character until you finished those prologues.

Article : "In fact, sometimes developers, who build the game on a PC, even went too far with their ambitions to make “Dragon Age: Inquisition” as realistic as possible. One key development rule was to remember that the games, which Lee says will be radically different and more detailed on the new consoles, still need to play in versions for the Xbox 360 and PS3."

This saddens me. Wish Bioware would've just left the last gen alone, but then again it's all about money. Sigh...

Estimation of 100 hours? I remember committing that many hours (if not more) in FF9, an indication of such feat when the white numbers displaying the time turn red. The average time it takes for me to complete a BioWare game is usually 30-40 hours, (including all side-quests) but 100 hours this time around? I dunno if BioWare has it in them to uphold & maintain the standard quality for 100 hours with minimum usage of repetitive questing. Not only that, but Lee took the liberty to split the 100 hrs in complete halves.

50 hrs= dedicated to the main game...

50 hrs= dedicate to side quest, exploration, & cut-scenes...

_________

Total= 100 hrs of gameplay...

I'm not sure if 'fast travel' exist in this game or not; I'll assume it does... It may very well play a big factor reducing the overall 100 hrs significantly.

Games never, ever take me as long as their estimations suggest and I don't rush or anything. But yeah. I'm not gonna attach good/bad tags to this news yet. For me Origins kinda drags, it's a long game and (especially in follow up playthroughs) that got a little annoying. But we'll see.

Im sure the word of someone who hasn't played the game carries much more legitimacy than a developer

I'm sure too. With the track record of what game developers promise and what they actually deliver, it's safe to err on the side of caution.

seriously hoping we get more variety in character type than 'diplomatic/sneaky/aggressive', but the duration of content looks like a win.

A hundred hrs of gameplay is nice. Like others have said its an overestimation and it really depends on how somebody plays. Still, even if it ends up as half that then thats fine.

Definitely worth the $60. Take that 100+ hours and multiply it by the races, genders, and classes we get to be.....oh and dont forget the different character attitudes we can create.

Agreed. As much as I liked DA2....it did NOT have $60 worth of content. DA2 was more like a $34.95 game.

One of the things that bugged me so much about the previous games was they just didn't last very long at all. I mean, DA2, I knocked that out in like 20 hours. And when I beat Origins, I was just left wanting more of the world. It felt like I didn't spend enough time with these characters I had grown to love.

So I'm very happy that I'll be able to spend a hundred hours with Team Inquisitor.

And Maker knows how much possible DLC will add to that play time.

So I've found a new article(....new to me at least), and the article itself is a good read; however most of what is there is already known. What I DIDN'T know and was quite happy to see was the game's story taking 40-50 hours to complete (without skipping scenes) and over 100 hours if we opt to do all of the side quests (which I will for sure).

Almost forgot lol Here is the link! :D  http://blogs.wsj.com...ge-inquisition/

Actually, it says 40-50 hours with skipping the scenes.

I find these numbers never mean very much out of personal context.  I have to compare my playtime of past games with the developer's estimate for those games, then extrapolate from there.  From the sound of this looks like DA:I for me will be an 70-80 hour proposition the first time round.

Yup, me too.

My best friend was insane though. His first play of DAO took him 271 hours......... 271. I just about lost my mind trying not to spill the beans and spoil story waiting for him to finish.

What the...?! How?!

Rarely have I ever paid this much for any game. I guess I sure got my money's worth out of both DA:O and 2, since they were $15 and $20 respectively when I got them.

I wonder what the shortest amount of time it will take to complete the game just doing the quests that move the story forward. I like doing speedruns.

As far the length of the game, anything over 30 - 40 hours is fine with me.

Ahhh, the benefits of being a seasonal employee. A good long RPG to start off the long Alaska winter. I'd be shocked if it went an actual 100 hours, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it did.

Don't take projected times too literally. By the end of my last few Mass Effect 2 runs, with all DLCs included I was reaching about 100 hours per playthrough.

That is considerably more than projected numbers would have someone believe, so playthrough length is down to each individual person. Could be shorter than expected, could be longer. Just hope for the game length that you desire and that you'll get your money's worth.

I'm rather torn on this, part of me likes longer games as I'm getting more for my money, but I had been planning to do 9 playthroughs, one for each specialisation, obviously over time they will get shorter as I get more used to the game, but still, other than having to go to work I may not be seeing the outside world for a long time.

This sounds wonderful to me. I love exploring all the different variables, just to see how things change.  Such a grand scale speaks highly to the game's replay possibilities.

Hope 100 is on the high end. I kind of lose patience and focus with long games.

If your patience/attention span is too low you might consider ignoring optional content which means not doing any side quests, 100 is WITH side quests, and knowing BW a good chunk of the game is going to be optional stuff.

Wow! 100 hours is exciting. Knowing how I play, I'll double that with exploration. Is it sad that I'm moving to a new country soon and I already plan to be holed up with a video game exploring a virtual world instead of my new home? lol

In my experience you will get people that always (always!) dwarf the stated time, and people that find that the time estimate is too conservative.

They say if you kill a kind of creatures too many times, their number will decrease and eventually they will extinct. I hope that's a good way to balance between farming opportunity and over farming.
