I have been thinking about this. Is it possible that Liara having already started making the time capsules in the event that the reapers completed the harvest. Placed these capsules on other worlds with the stories of Shepard's adventures as a way to let other new species know what has happened in the galaxy.

This is kind of my way to explain the storyteller and the child at the end. (they don't really make sense otherwise)

Also why the ending feels more like a story being told then actual real time (as it where)

What do you guys think of this possibility and/or what are you theories?

I don't mine the time capsule itself. I didn't like that its T'soni telling my story when I have nothing to do with her. Too bad there wasn't an option to pick what you want told that fits the Shepard I play without any input from Liara.

It explains the stargazer and the child in the Refuse aftermath. If the Refuse ending is chosen, the subsequent cycle triumphs because they learned of the Reapers and the Crucible (and of course Shepard as well) through the time capsules.

Post-EC the scene with the stargazer and the child doesn't make a lick of sense if Synthesis, Control, or High EMS Destroy was chosen. Post-EC galactic civilization no longer collapses in those endings, so there should be no reason why Shepard would have morphed from a historical figure into a semi-mythical one. History becomes myth and legend when people are unable to preserve their history and instead pass it down word of mouth in campfire stories.

The Stargazer scene made some sense when paired with all versions of the original endings in which it was implied that galactic civilization had collapsed. It doesn't make any sense at all when paired with the Extended Cut endings (except Refuse), and is best ignored as a non-canon tribute to space exploration.

I tend to agree that the time capsule should've been handled by your Love interest and not by T'soni. I just felt like they sidelined a bunch of the characters to shoehorn Liara in too the story.

My thought is that the capsules have been placed for new spieces to find no matter the ending. Away for the galaxy to introduce new aliens to the past.

I can agree with that. Liara did not bother me in ME1 but she is not one of my favorite characters.

It makes sense for something an archaeologist would do.

Though I hope she has a way to switch them off if we win, because other wise they could seriously freak some species out.

Indeed. There's no way I'd let Liara pen my autobiography without me standing over her shoulder with a red pencil. That girl's boots hardly touched the ground in my playing. She is no expert on me!

That scene wouldn't have worked with most of the characters. The only characters that could have been potentially swapped out for Liara in that scene and still have it work would be Mordin, EDI, or Legion. It has to be either a scientist or an A.I., as a soldier like Garrus or Ashley shouldn't know a thing about crafting time capsules that can last 50,000 years.

I agree, having a love interest would be great. I'm sure having to record about 11 different versions and find a way to not only shoehorn them onto the Normandy, but provide a credible reasoning to them creating it would be dead easy.

As I said I don't mine  the capsule or that Liara came up with the idea. For me it would be hard to have my LI, Traynor, talk about me when the romance locks in after the coup. That's why I stated that there should be an option to pick a description that would best fit the Shepard I play without input from Liara.

i didn't like it.What was the whole point of that scene anyway she's was going to make it and share his/her story to the whole galaxy. Also the galaxy will know of shepard regardless of liara capsule krogan will remember shepard has hero, geth as the first organic to help them etc.liara in that scene reminds me of a sick stalker or those type of people who always want to be with you , i loaded a auto save and just never talked to her.

She is not of me either as she never spoken too by any of my Shepard's.

Han, Kaiden is an engineer, he is seen working on Normady's computer systems. Ashely can ask someone to help her at least. And so what if characters could be dead they deserved the treatment just like Liara got. Also the fact, Garrus is a techie as well as he is mostly working on the Normandy's engines. Heck he even helps install the Thaix cannon on the SR 2 so they would know how too do something like that just saying.. Miranda for example brought you back to life using reaper tech, as she also has tech skills. It's not just an Liara only job.

I really don't see what anyone would find the least bit stalker-ish about this scene. One would think that the creepy stalker type wouldn't bother trying to get the subject's final approval on setting the biographical information. Frankly, I think some people see and hear what they want, not what's actually there.

I think they could have set the scene up where Liara sent Shepard a message asking him to create an entry to put into the time capsule. As Shepard begins working on it the LI comes up and the scene plays out from there.

Making the time capsule LI-dependent seems like a mistake to me. The LI of Shepard can either be dead, or be one of the cast no longer aboard the ship.

Still won't work. People would complain that their ME2 or VS love interest isn't there. Sadly Liara is probably the best choice.

However to echo themikefest, I would prefer 3 subtle variations:

1) as a LI

2) as a friend

3) a more formal relationship

In my head the scene would be much more different. It could take place later. If the LI is not a crew mate it could take place on the Citadel or something like that (my main idea was to give the LI's more content in the vanilla game, especially if they're names begin with a J or M). In a case there is no love interest, perhaps, whoever Shepard is friendliest with (if the game has some way to measure that) would fill the role, or then default to Liara.

To get this scene at all you have to talk to her, so there is a formal relationship to some capacity at the very least.

Liara explicitly states what the capsule is for. It's a record to leave behind for the races of the next cycle should the war with the reapers go badly.

If you don't talk to Liara at all,  the time capsule scene will never happen. Even if you talk to her you don't have to invite her to your cabin

It does puzzle me that people who express a dislike for the character complain about an optional scene that only occurs if you actually go talk to the character they are supposed to hate, and then invite her up.

Very strange.

Can you imagine the collective screams of joy if renegade Shepard had the option to just walk around in Liara's cabin and knock stuff over for the hell of it.

Liara: Shepard! What are you doing? I have work to do!

Shepard: So do I! [knocks over intel console]

Liara: Goddess! Perhaps I should have taken that offer to serve aboard Hackett's ship instead.

Shepard: What's that? [energy drains Glyph] tralala-lala! [exits]

Liara: -_-'
