Has anyone traveled around with these two as perma-companions?

Their polar views on mages really helps flesh out the mage/templar conflict. I really like how Bioware made them both so extreme that neither have the true moral ground; straw-manning the other while occasionally being a strawman themselves. Makes them very imperfect and human characters.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if you switched Anders with Morrigan?  Let's just say, I don't see that ending well...   :?

She'd probably find Fenris sexy. And intelligent, even if opposed.

She fights with Alistair because he's an idiot without any backbone.

Hmm... You might have a point.  I'd still expect a lot of mage-related arguments, though.

Definitely arguments, but I imagine it'd be more entertaining than Alistair. And I don't think Fenris is as strong willed as Sten. Heh

True, though considering how Sten is Qunari, it's hard for any non-mage outside the Qun to be as strong-willed as he is.  Besides, Morrigan does hit on Sten quite a bit, so he scared her with the 'preparations' for Qunari mating to get her to stop.  Not sure about Fenris...  Maybe he would just try to ignore her advances?  I mean, it seems like he does that with Isabela...

That's what I'm saying. Fenris would have no cool comeback like Sten. He'd give in and just be a sex slave.

Fenris and Isabela eventually hook up apparently. Just not "seriously".

I know I'm not supposed to, but I find this funny in an ironic way.   :P

Morrigan would agree about mages being dangerous, just take pride in it rather than take offense. That's what I love about her. <3

Also, she doesn't see other mages as "her people" like the DA2 mage companions all seem to (especially Anders).

If anything, I think Anders and Morrigan would be more problematic together. Morrigan would ridicule him for becoming an abomination, while Anders would hate her apathy about the "plight" of mages (that was basically my mage Hawke's relationship with him as well).

And oddly, Morrigan holds no true ill will to Templars. She seems more concerned about personal survival than rebellion. She doesn't take glee out of her and Flemeth killing them. It's just matter of fact. If you push her on whether she took joy in it, she says they had a job to do. Almost sounded like a respect for her enemies.

And like HYR says, she dislikes weakminded mages, who give into spirits. She doesn't even give the time of day for the Guardian at the Ashes quest. She dismisses him just like she does Demons in the Fade. Everything about her revolves around survival and personal interest. That includes fighting off spirits.

My party has always been 80% of time Fenris, Anders and Sebastian. I just always end up choosing them. Best party banter ever is when Sebastian asks Fenris if they should draw a lottery about which one of them will go and rat Anders and Merril to Meredith, and Anders is like "hei, I am HERE".  And when my Mage romances Fenris, I still managed to have them ALL at full friendship O.o. If I romance Anders, Fenris mostly end up at 40% of rivalry, or something like that. Well, once he was REALLY angry and ratted to Meredith that I lie about the runaway-mage (Emile de Launce?) and yelled me about everything. I was so upset! Well, about Sebastian I'm not sure, anyways he always leaves in the end because I don't kill Anders.

But yes, it is fun.

Fenris is quite nice to Bethany, despite her being an mage. He hates Merrill and Anders because they messed with things he finds foolish and revolting. In fact Merrill and Anders are the only companions he have heated discussions with (but he also seems to dislike Tallis too from what I saw).

I usually take Aveline, Bethany and Varric (AKA team normal) for act one, I barely used anyone else. And Merrill becomes the mage of the team for most of the game. I would gladly switch Anders for Bethany any day, she at least tend to stick to more pleseant topics.

I tended to bring the two of them along together a lot on my first playthrough but they actually agreed more often than you might expect. The reason is they both tended to be my go to guys for whenever Hawke was indulging Merrill in one of her shenanigans.

I had them together for a full act, I believe act 2.  I liked the dialogue they exchange, but  after a while I got sick of hearing them. They're like  two school kids bickering at each other.

Fenris and Anders....that's one of the worst possible combinations to have together in the party....mages this, templars that...so utterly tiresome to listen to. Nah, it's funny banter all the way for me.

Dislike both the characters tbh an find myself rolling a mage alot just so i dont have anders in the grp, got a rogue play through going the now (just alt/tabbed out) an have had both in the grp all through act 1 an 2 with the exception of companion quests an deep roads where i made beth a warden, the 3rd companion in the grp is Merril as tbh i take her in every playthrough, i just love her comments tbh, but needless to say i wont be putting her through playing with them 2 again, she seems very quiet an subdued with them both in grp, then when she does speak they tear her apart mostly.

But aye err im ranting so back to game

This is actually quite interesting reading...I mean, others have played the game so differently than me. I always drag Anders and Fenris with me and I'm so used to them nagging each other I find it just normal. Third member is Sebastian or sometimes Varric, and maybe Aveline.  And Merrill, well in my games Merrill sits at Alienage staring at her demon-mirror and never gets out because I can't stand her, her looks and her VO (no offence  you Merrill-fans, just how I feel about her). Isabela, she is funny but still I don't use her. She does not fit in my combination (but do take her to brothel and hear her laughing about Apostitutes, best ever).

So, I have played about...10? playthroughs, maybe even more, and done it in the way I enjoy. Then reading how others do the stuff is awesome because clearly, their playthroughs are very different to mine. This is why I absolutely love Biowares games.

For me I often brought people on quests who have no business being there because they offered (often disapproving) dialogue.

Ex: For mage missions I often brought Fenris even though I was always supporting the mages and he'd help me regardless.

Fenris: "Let's kill a templar... Clearly that will help."

For "Mirror Image" I brought Anders and Fenris because those two bicker all the time.

Merrill: "They acted like I was a monster."

Fenris: "You are a monster."

Again, I brought those two for Merrill's Act 3 quest "A New Path" because of how much they disapproved of what Hawke was helping Merrill do. I laughed when Anders said "I don't know what I'm even doing here" as we hiked up Sundermount to summon the demon.

During MoTA I brought Aveline and Isabela because they don't get along.

Isabela: "You hear that Hawke? I'm a force of nature."

Aveline: "So is plague."

I made sure Isabela was there for The Long Road when Aveline wanted to court Donnic. My Hawke just loves trouble.

I made the mistake of teaming Anders with Fenris in the Legacy dlc. Fenris just about ruined it because he would not shut up about mages, I had no idea Moa would be about more blood magic otherwise I would never have brought them both along. So they get to stay at home next time.

I generally find them a depressing pair so I tried a warrior Hawke playthrough with no mages. Unfortunately I was so used to the bickering,  the "niceness" of the party started getting on my nerves.

I would have like to have kept Bethany though, the only mage besides Hawke that Fenris couldn't bring himself to be mean to.

For those who don't know Fenris can become completely irrelevant. He can be ignored and not recruited at all. Just saying. You will only miss his personal quests because he has close to no role in important events of the game.

Yeah last playthrough, in act 3, once I got full friendship/rivalry status with all the characters I wanted to, I just did most every mission with Fenris, Anders, & Varric. I would have chosen to use Bethany instead of Anders, if I could, but she was off doing righteous Grey Wardening stuff.
