Because they have family and friends?
Look. Elves have a choice - fight for what they want or suck it up.

Well it was their choice, and still is.
Well they do fight, and then they are killed. So what now?

Now they are dead, but atleast they don't live a miserable life.

No seriously, why cling to a pathetic existence. Nobody chooses where they are born and what they get, but if it sucks, whats the point?
There are three ways elf situation plays out:
1) They are content enough with what they have to not do anything.
2) They are not content and start to fight and achieve something.
3) They are not content and start to fight but fail.

Kinda short sighted revenge attempt if Elves are not immune to it? And what did they have against the Dwarves?
Well, the Dwarves did give up all the elves hiding in Cadash Thaig to Tevinter to earn favor.

How do you explain the giant floating black city in the fade?
#39
Posté 30 avril 2014 - 02:52
I was playing origins for the umpteenth time today and started a dalish elf. Something Tamlen said during the origin made me think of this. What if the Golden city was a trick, an idea planted in the minds of the old Tevinter magisters by ancient elven dreamers. The elves manipulate the magisters into opening a portal to what they believe is this wondrous city they see in the fade but actually leads to the sunken Arlathan. Upon their arrival the vengeful elves release their taint weapon and then send the now darkspawnish Cory and company back to destroy their old foe (and every innocent bystander in sight but who cares about that stuff when you've been trapped underground for that how long). If what we have been told about uthenera and the ability of some elves to draw sustenance from the fade is true then I believe that it's possible that some of these ancients could have survived the sinking and plotted their vengeance. This would explain what Cory said about it already being black and it was supposed to be golden. It would also explain what Tamlen said about the city underground full of blackness that turned him into a darkspawn. The fact that the city is now black in the fade I guess could be the dreamers taunting the survivors.
Tl/dr the golden city was a trick by ancient elven dreamers to unleash the taint.
If this turns out to be true, then those vengeful ancients are the most dangerous pranksters in fictional history.
Alternatively, Fen-Herel could've been involved.

This is a wonderful theory indeed. Eluvians and Fade-dreamers parts make sense.

You severely underestimate the survival instinct. Go preach to the hundreds of thousands starving, poor and oppressed in our world about the mercy of death, and see what their reaction in general will be. Only true desperation leads to suicidal instincts, and there's things worse than their lot, to desire death. When you strive to survive daily, you don't contemplate on the meanings of life and death, your empty stomach points you to the value of living. Something we, in our warm houses, watching "Twilight" struggles and daily talk shows, forgot.

They deserve nothing really. They are content with being second class citizens and wild outcasts.
Egads, you're right, Kain. Something must be wrong here!
Elves don't have that freedom. That's like saying the Casteless get to choose what to do with their lives. Both have a set range of options, all of them terrible.
Sure they do have that freedom. I didn't see any indication in DA:O's city elf origin that elves were forced to become slaves. They weren't. They may not have the same advantages of a human, for sure, but that doesn't mean they cannot do anything. Same for casteless--there's an entire world out there that they're ignoring to be hated by their dwarven brethren.

You may have missed option number two. And option three, for that matter, which does not say "give up and die."
The fact of the matter is that people don't mind being victims because it's predictable. Humans abhor change almost (and in this case) more than they desire betterment.
Just look at just about any part of your life where you know you can improve on, but you haven't. It's just easier to not try.

Interesting idea OP, except for one problem.
Morrigan's eluvian was certainly not tainted.

First of all, I was responding to this part of her message, and especially the bolded part:

Secondly, it's not always that simple as you'd like it to be. If the wishes were horses...

Yup.
If you come to a Bioware Forum party, hire a SWTOR bounty hunter to guard you and hope someone doesn't pay him/her more to kill you and your children if you have a different opinion. ![]()

Didn't she need to do a ritual/spell to possibly untaint it? She did need the dalish tome to learn more about it + she said it was a one time use.
