So it's an equality thing :P. I see your point, but since the CEs lived mostly a secluded somewhat subservient life and were not a mobile people in the game world, they are not going to have much impact on the areas in concern in Thedas, whereas the Dalish will be more involved because they are mobile.

The Masked Empire suggests otherwise. Knowing that I'm surprised they went with a dalish rather than a city elf.

I'll admit that I rarely buy into the extra-lore of games (officially) sold in paperback or downloadable e-book types. I usually just read the in-game codex or the various wikis since most of those wikis contain info from those who have read of the extra-lore. When I consider my ending game state and how the CEs earned more freedoms and had a larger voice for their people in a human ruled land, I imagine them having a larger impact on the rest of the realms and possibly in the next game of the series.

Except for the fact that we see that the CE in DA:O was able to have an impact, and to be involved in the plot. We see that there are (rare) wealthy CE merchants in Kirkwall. CEs are also Circle mages. So it is perfectly plausible to have CEs across the continent.

We'll see how it pans out, perhaps the Dalish background in DA:I will be more dynamic than what was experienced in the previous two games. 10+ years have passed, so time will tell.

The fact that I am stuck being the type of elf I don't like playing as much doesn't change regardless of how dynamic the impact.

Yeah, at least with Toph's "I hate the rules I've had to grow up with" mindset, it can be enjoyable.

Female Qunari will be my first one too.

You wait. They'll reveal that the human inquisitor is a distant cousin to the Couslands, and people will be lining up to play one.

Honestly, you're judging a game's plot with a race or background that hasn't been determined to what that will totally be until it's played. In get the preference, but for me, I'd rather move on to a similar background with which has different elements to it, or something totally new. They added the Qunari which is good, but something else for each of the other race's previous backgrounds or at least add one more that's different for one of the races.

I still plan to play at least a few Human Inquisitors. It's just race selection is back, so I'm going to use it.

I never said the CEs didn't have an impact and it's within DA lore that CEs have existed and still exist in the regions of Thedas, it's not just plausible, it already is fact within the realm.

I don't like roleplaying as Dalish Elves.

No matter anything else, this is a constant.

Should I sign somewhere in the meantime? Just for the record. I don't want anyone to accuse me of having switched teams later  :P

But really, I get it. Qunari are new and flashy. But other than that, I fail to see the appeal. If I had to decide on a race as a second choice (Humanity First. Always), it'll probably be dwarves, mostly because I thought the backgrounds they had in DAO were awesome and did a great job of presenting their culture as original and interesting.

"I'm sad I can't play a CE" is absolutely nothing like "I'm happy we can only play Dalish elves".

It has nothing to do with that. For example, in my case, I think Dalish culture has a lot of offensive and overtly racist or otherwise classist beliefs, and I wouldn't play a Dalish protagonist without the opportunity to actively repudiate the majority of things that Dalish believe as a matter of lore.

Not all Dalish elves are like that. Each clan is different.

"The Dalish clans themselves can also be quite different from each other. Some clans will get along fairly well with humans, and might even camp outside of settlements for long periods of time. Other clans are more infamous, living by banditry and hiding like guerrillas in the mountain passes." - Dragon Age Wiki

I meant why the 'Oh geez <_< ' attitude.

To answer your question, I have no problem with people being able to play Dalish Elves. My problem comes from us ONLY being able to play Dalish Elves.

In theory. In fact, we've seen absolutely no Dalish clan being different from any other Dalish clan, and any of the lore in the codexes we've been exposed to is consistent in the same theme of cultural absorption, supremacy and general racism. There are Dalish individuals who don't seem to share these beliefs - but that's the exception, not the rule.

I'd actually rather play the Dalish- new magic, different worldview, and the first time we could see in a clan and know what they know about the fade.  The city elves seem to have little in the way of culture besides being oppressed.  How much do you think a background will play into the whole game.  In DA:O it didn't stay important for long, and honestly, with all that is going on it doesn't seem like there'd be a whole lot of time to look back.

I personally hope that they leave the backgrounds ambiguous. I never wanted to play a Dalish so I'm going to play my elf as someone who turned their back on the clan. I don't expect Bioware to pander to my headcanon, but I'd like to have a little bit of agency in my character's background since they said they weren't going to have the same prevalence that they had in Origins.

Still better than DAII. We couldn't use any other races beside human.
