What's going on there? Are they broken up? In a long distance relationship? Or in my Warden going to be her npc wife who makes a cameo appearance?

We need to know what happened to the Warden first before getting a good answer to this.

 

The last thing we know is that the Warden is missing.

If the Warden is involved in DAI, I'd hope their relationship would be referenced.

I feel that it's either long distance, or they still love each other but don't commit anymore because they are both important people with important things to do that keep them apart. ;_;

I'd consider them still to be in a relationship if romanced. The Warden being missing without her knowing why is no doubt a concern to Leilana though.

My Warden is dear to Leliana's heart. With Leliana in the game, I'm sure in the game she will mention the Warden.

She won't be a companion, but she is an advisor to the Inquisition and it looks like she's going to be a lot more important than she was in DA2.

maybe she will refrance the warden from Origins and what  they did together but I doubt we will see the warden

Well, 10 years have passed, so who's to say the romance endured? A lot has happened since then, it's hardly a stretch for Leliana and the Warden to have drifted apart. Factor in the Warden's disappearance, and Leliana's ascension within the Seekers (and now Inquisition), too. I can see there being dialogue referring to the Warden, and how important they were to each other at one time, though. Leliana is a bit more of an open book (emotionally) than Morrigan ever was.

Considering Leliana was surprised to be in the same part of Thedas as the Warden in DA2, I think the relationship was pretty definitely over.

She still made it clear she was still dear to her in DA2. That doesn't necessarily mean it's still going on, but until proven otherwise I'm just thinking it's like Jaheira's epilogue in Baldur's Gate 2. Not always together, but never entirely apart.

It would be nice if Leliana and the Warden were still together, in the romantic sense, with their roles in the world they would have little opportinuty to actually be together physically. I have this image of the 2 of them fighting their seperate battles, doing what they have to, and every now and again their paths cross and it's a very special moment for both of them, (Sandle standing in the background staring making the whole thing just a little uncomfortable ) I hope if we do see the Warden in Inquisition, they have a special role and Leliana is involved, if they have grown appart i won't whine, David Gaider has clearly state the Warden is no longer ours, so he can do what he thinks is right for the story, hopefully he and i have similar ideas though.

Considering Leliana was surprised to be in the same part of Thedas as the Warden in DA2, I think the relationship was pretty definitely over.

 

She was surprised her relation ship with the Warden was known of in Kirkwall.  Immediately after, she admits that the Warden was "dear to her heart".  So it seems pretty clear their relationship endured for at least seven years.

I will be surprised if the Warden or Champion relationships still exists. They will be referenced probably, but as Gaider said once DAO and DA2 end they are no longer our characters and become NPCs. 

 

For various reasons I can see those romantic relationship ending.

I mean, we can pretty much assume they won't go into detail about the relationship.  But Gaider also said that they'd try to do our former characters justice even if they aren't ours anymore.  And a lot of people like to think that their characters' relationships endure postgame.

 

That's why Leliana has teh "dear to my heart" line.  And why Zevran turns down a hookup with Hawke (once the bug was fixed at least)

You know, I wouldn't mind her answering an Inquisitor who asked about her surname, that it's now that of a romanced Warden.

 

If not, we'd just get her real surname, which we still don't know. Either way, nice treat for the fans.

The beauty of it is, it's open to interpretation.

 

I mean, I could imagine the Warden and Leliana travelling together frequently.  Especially after Awakening.

 

I'd like to think that while Leliana was meeting Hawke in the chantry, my Cousland was a the Hanged Man, being regaled with stories of the recent Qunari invasion by this funny little dwarf with a flair for hyperbole...
