The feeling it gives is amazing. Dat sound. Dat 100% headgib chance. It feels extremely powerful.Claymore is single highhandedly the most over rated weapon in this whole game.
Please dont misunderstand. I enjoy using the claymore, I think its powerful and versatile. I understand how to reload cancel. Its a great gun. But... I just don't understand how or why it gets so much praise. Its hardly the top DPS weapon in the game...

The stat DPS isn't all that important when you can one-shot most humanoid units.

Part of the reason the Claymore works so well for me: its DPS isn't the most amazing, true. But its burst DPS, that is, the amount of damage I can get off in a single shot, is pretty much unmatched for the style. Few other weapons can one shot, or 1 power + 1 shot, most of the enemies in the game. This is significant when you're running glass cannon no-fitness builds, where you really need to focus on getting back into cover ASAP.

I agree it gets a lot of praise, though for me, I love the gun, not it's deeps.
I like the sound, I like the feel of it, headshots are awesome...I even like when I shoot someone close to a wall and there are bullet holes left where they once stood.
It's about the experience, not the deeps.

Right... and I get all that, and I appreciate the weapon for similar reasons. I guess I just dont see it as being significantly better then other weapons that could fulfill that same criteria. Shrugs. I dont mean to poo-poo the Claymore. I just think the praise it receives seems drastically out of sync with the reality of its game functionality. I mean... I dont even place it in my top 3 favorite shotguns, much less my top 10 weapons.
Maybe I am just taking the "Hail the High Lord" stuff too seriously? More of a insider BSN thing?

I thought this thread was about the Disciple, im disappointed
A fitting name for that gun, as it has a lot to learn about being a shotgun

The Disciple is one of the better shotguns and has unique qualities that makes it a better alternative to a lot of shotguns. Also l2Disciple

The ability to reliably stagger you mean?
It kind of needs that given that it struggles with actually killing stuff.

We'll agree to disagree on that.
Though I do have it @ X now, maybe I should give it another chance.....probably not. But maybe.
In my experience the stagger is unreliable, the damage is underwhelming, it doesn't shoot all that fast, so there's nothing special about it.
It's pretty good @ holding my Omni-blade, I'll give you that.

Yes the ability to stagger, ability to pierce armour (with right mods and ammo), the fact that its a hitscan so it would be more reliable off-host than similar shotguns like the venom or GPS and the fact that it is so lightweight makes it a very useful shotgun. Yes the damage isn't great but its still a viable weapon on Platinum.
We'll agree to disagree on that.

I was just joking about the l2Disciple, but you should give the gun another chance, I was really quite surprised with how well it synergised with kits even on Platinum

The ability to pierce armour with the right mods and the fact that it's hitscan are not even close to unique qualities.
The only thing it has that other hitscan shotguns don't is a higher than normal stagger chance.
It's also the lightest shotgun but in all honesty I don't mind giving up 40% more recharge speed to bring the Wraith, which means a fair bit more firepower. Given that the weight increase for certain mods doesn't work on vanilla weapons, the Wraith remains light no matter what you do with it.
It's viable on Platinum, but then I would say everything is viable with the right setup. Even the Shuriken and Avenger.
