I'm posting this thread to find some sort of confirmation on the extent of the distribution problem of Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition in Europe.

For those of you this is still news to: European retailers in multiple countries have sent email to their customers, announcing that the ME2 Collector's Edition will be delayed until AFTER the launch day, at worst by one business week.

The countries mentioned to be affected by this delay: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain & Sweden.

According to a forum member's report I just got, the delay is also true outside Europe, namely in South Africa.

Here's the English translation of the email I received from my Finnish retailer:

The Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2 you have ordered has problems with its distribution. The Collector's Edition won't make it to retailers in Europe in time for the release date, but instead it'll arrive approximately one week after the release date.

Our apologies for the delay. The product will be delivered as fast as possible. The standard editions of the game will arrive in time for the launch day.

If you have new information to add, please post it in this thread.

Update 1: I've sent a detailed message to Chris Priestly with a link to this thread, so if we just stay patient I'm sure we'll get a response sooner or later.

Update 2: To anyone from BioWare reading this, a simple aknowledgement of the problem existing would suffice at this point, everyone just needs to know that BioWare and EA are aware of this issue.

Update 3: I've updated the list of countries affected according to the latest reports by forum members.

Update 4: I've removed Holland & Poland from the list of countries affected due to reports to the contrary. No official response from BioWare has been seen to this day. We have one public response from EA (UK) here.

Update 5: I've added Norway to the list of countries affected by the delay due to a message I just got. You can now also join the Mass Effect 2 CE Owners group. We may get it late, but we've still got our pre-orders!

Update 6: I've added an additional note for the delay in South Africa, though outside Europe.

Update 7: We are now past 40 pages and 1000 posts in this thread, but unfortunately all attempts at getting an answer to the delay have failed so far.

Update 8: [Final] The release day came and went, but no official explanation for the delay was ever received, which is indeed disappointing. We're now in the phase where most people have already received their CE copies, or will receive them this week. It appears that this matter will matter simply pass into history as another great case of EA lacking the integrity to stand up for its mistakes.

This is, apparently, the end of updates to this thread. I'll leave the post intact for referential purposes. Thank you all for participating in our search for some honest answers. Dated February 3rd, 2010.

Fingers crossed, the UK will be fine. I pre-ordered mine in-store, but I guess they'll still be effected if there are any distribution problems here.



Seriously, I will have a major tantrum if it's delayed here! And if the Final Fantasy XIII CE is delayed? Well, words can't describe the rage I will feel xD

In Spain, at least Game.es (the same as Game.co.uk, but for Spain) has the regular edition for the 28th of January, and the Collector's Edition for the 4th of February. It looks like it's oficial, but it would be great a BioWare's confirmation.

Game Mania in Belgium is still getting it the 28th. That might have to do with us presumably only getting the 'Digital Deluxe' Edition, or the fact that we don't translate our games.

As for the UK/mainland Europe situation, it's somewhat odd that Game.co.uk hasn't announced anything regarding a delay for their CE stock, because here in Finland we're getting the English version of ME2 (no localisation here) - if the CEs are delivered on time in the UK, why aren't they here when it's the same English game version?

I've pre-ordered from game.co.uk, they haven't sent me anything about this. Perhaps this is a problem with distribution in isolated certain parts of Europe? *Worried face*

Man...I hope to god the delay isn't because someone decided to localize the CE.

What I gleaned from the first "CE ETA delayed" thread was that the delay seems to concern the printing of the artbook (not sure if this was confirmed).

Art book and stuff should have been planned and executed months ago. Bad planning discovering problems a week from release. The curse of Return to Ostagar Spreads it seems (Dragon age dlc delay)

Hungary gets CE on the 1st of February. Normal edition is still listed on a 29th release.

I switched my order to a UK webstore. Here's for hoping it was the smart thing to do. As long as it ships the 29th, I should still get it 3-4 days earlier than the delayed release date in my country...



I assume there was some major problem with the artbook - perhaps some pictures came out in negative or in wrong resolution, or some of the myriad issues there can be in printing business when somebody on the line screws up, and the next 10,000 copies will be ruined.

In Poland the PC CEs will arrive on time without the art books (they will be available a week after the premiere).
The Xbox version however seems to be delayed. 

It doesn't make much sense but that's what EA here have been telling us.

Yeah, there's lots of contradictory information floating around right now... it's pretty hard to get the big picture of what's really wrong. I hope Chris can find something on this later.

It would be nice to get some sort of reaction from anyone involved (either EA or Bioware) instead of all this speculation on the reasons. I mean it's been over a day since this news hit.

Nothing on EA's or Bioware's pages, nothing but a big middle finger via the place you ordered it from!

I find this really troubling, especially regarding the upcoming MMO from Bioware. I mean they can't even get a downloadable content right (RtO), but not only that, if someone downloaded it by accident it ruined the entire game. And now this. Sure europe gets the kick in the butt again while americans not only get it a week earlier but without any delay too. Europe is treated like second grade customners again while paying MORE for the product. This is unacceptable. At this rate there's no way in hell that they'll be able to pull something like an MMO off. I'm very worried about this kind of amateurish behaviour.

Yes, realy nice. We have to pay more, wait longer and often get less. I like to live in Europe.... Not!

It remembers me badly to the problems we have had with DA:O. It was delayed a couple of days cause a broken install cd in Germany.
Actually i havn´t heard something from Amazon regarding a delay of ME2 CE i still hope i won´t affect me.
