...and why they aren't a class/specialty in DA:I. I love the ranger archetype. I always play as a ranger ala Faramir or Aragorn in role playing games. Who doesn't like a versatile ranged specialist who is also proficient with melee weapons? Who possess basic stealth and trap abilities? Who possess survival skills and an attunement to nature that often is made manifest through the ability to have an animal companion? Who doesn't like a cool looking cloak and hood? Who doesn't like the duo of Jon Snow and Ghost from GoT (ok not technically a ranger but he aspires to be one and he does go ranging...)? In party based games (especially Baldurs Gate/Neverwinter nights) the Ranger always struck me as an essential party member (even if mechanically they were flawed) for their ability to guide a party the through rugged, wild terrain. To me, the Ranger archetype is MADE for open world games, serving as guides and experts in surviving off the land. Why is it that "rogue" is now the generic catch all class for people who don't rely on magic and people that don't like to just smash things? Whatever happened to a little chaotic good discretion, to that deeper sensitivity to nature, to great looking beards, to swishy forest-green cloaks? Whatever happened to the Ranger!? The ranger was in DA:O, so we know that this is not a matter of conflicting lore. And Lets face it, the urbanite "rogue" makes for a rather inept wilderness guide. To my ranger companions out there then, lets us raise our voice then and let it be known that rangers must not be forgotten!
