Ive done a search on this error:
failed to compile global shader FLDRTTranslucencyCombikeVertexShader
and everything i have come up with says low ends cards dont work with this game- i have a gtx 295 on a hight end computer!  latest drivers- i even just reinstalled them.  I patched the game- and reloaded direct X in the game files.  this is with the steam version of the game.  tried various compatability modes and used admin to load.

Computer specs:
windows 7 64 bit
i7920
geforce 295 with lastest drivers
asus rampage extreme II with latest bios and chipset drivers

I just bought this game- looking forward to playing it in antisipation for the sequil!  please help me out!  thanks!

two quick thoughts..



1) try the following go to:

Your folder whatever it is\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect\\Binaries

2) double click on mass effect config

3) Click on the repair on the left hand side

4) Delete Local Shader Cache files



try launching again



if not make sure to disable sli when starting up...ya never know (though I've heard people have no issue running ME1 with an SLI'd / cf combination it just doesn't support it)

thanks for the help. I found the problem on my own- for the sake of others here is is:

the desktop icon i had steam create would not allow me to run in full compatibility mode. i went into the games files and found the exe that loads the game and selected windows vista compatibility mode and it worked!! now steam loads the game fine- i deleted the old icon on the desktop. THIS GAME ROCKS!
