Hey guys... just have a semi-quick question for everyone.  Ive gotten alot of the Bioware Games from Baulders-gate to NWN.. and its always been benifitial to have the 'hard-copy' of the game so you get the game-manual with it (lets face it.. these games are realy well done but in order to realy 'know' what all the skills and spells can do.. and do any type of planning you need those books).  Well with nowadays alot of games are being bought digitaly.. with no 'hard copy' book.. any manual you get is generaly in a pdf file.  But.. to spice things up.. they throw in extra goodies only available with the Downloaded version.

Like with Origins.. If you get the digital Delux edition of Origins.. you not only get a few extra items.. but a full 'add-on' to boot.  What im wondering is this.. Will that same add-on be available After the game is released to the public?.. because i can do withough the extra items if it means i get that hard-copy book that actualy tells you what each skill and such does rather than ahve to flip my way thew a pdf file..  But.. on the same end.. i dont wanna miss out on the extra 'add-on' if it will never be given out to the general public post-release (even if its an extra 5 bucks or something to get it)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

The Warden's Keep? Yes, it will be available for download at a $7 purchase post-release.

If by "Add-On" you are referring to the Warden's Keep DLC, then most certainly you can pick it up. That "add-on" is available from Day 1 of the game ^.^ Something that has been of some contention for folks, but you'll be happy to know you can pick it up immediately. It is stated to be $7 for the Warden's Keep.<br />

You can check out what info on it in this link. It's right off the main page of dragonage.com - to the top right where you click "Game Add-Ons".

Edit for Self Note: When JEBesh is on duty, type faster...

If you mean Wardens Keep, then yes, it's sold separately. Stone prisoner is free DLC, I think. As for rings, armour etc., I don't know.

Edit: Double beated.

Wardens Keep will be available for $7 when Dragon Age: Origins launches.

That is, if you don't get it with your game like the digital CE version gets.

*smiles* well the Armor comes from pre-ordering.. so i'll get that.. the rings.. eh.. i could do withought.. as with the staff you get with that delux digital thing. Somes games i simply want the 'hard-copy' of =D and this is one of them. So im willing to fork over a Mcdonals value meal for the add-on after i get the game. i'll just eat at home instead that night *grins*. Thanks for the answers!.. now to go pre-order it.

The only real benefit, other than physical items, of the normal CE is the making of DVD and the "cloth" map. Oh, and the opportunity to pay for Warden's Keep. But since it's been years since a "cloth map" has actually been quality cloth and not just a few loosely arranged threads I've opted for the Digital CE instead. :)

I don't know.

These days, game manuals tend to be cheap, flimsy affairs, even for a game that might need a lot of documentation. For me, the best reason to get the hardcopy is the guarantee that no matter what happens to my PC I will still have something I can install two, three, or five years from now.

Myself, I prefer digital download. Besides not having to wait for the physical copy to arrive, I also do not like the quality of manuals that ship with games. I really like PDF manuals- type in a word and quickly search for what I need. The times when I do want a physical copy of the manual, I take it to a Staples or Kinkos, etc and get a larger, nicer, easier to read copy made and put it on a spiral binder (and one that wasn't made in a sweatshop in China).

Yeah, I'd get a download version, but I really, really like the booty that comes with the hard copy CE. Oooooo, booty.

CLOTH MAP! TIN CASE! You can use those to kill peop... I mean make people envy you. Also I like having a physical disc, that way I would be able to install the game if I ever don't have an internet connection.

I think your account names need to match, like your Bioware account and the one you used here?  Or something like that.  Check the Technical issues thread in the other forum.  Pretty sure I saw some posts about that issue in there.

I'm just going to buy the vanilla version from a local shop. The rest of the stuff can come later. I really want a proper manual, a big great hulking manual. Something that can stun a hippo if necessary.

I usually make a backup disc from all my downloaded games, but most of those are from a company that only uses a serial number check. Not sure if I'll be able to do the same with this one or not.

You're right about the cloth map and tin case, my kids would absolutely use those as weapons. But they're also probably made in China and they could have lead paint... Image IPB

Hehe the biggest manual I've ever seen was from Matrix games War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition. Too big to fit in the case. I actually got the idea of printing my own manuals from this thread:

Now THAT'S what I call a proper manual! Image IPB

I pay for internet by the gigabyte down here - for me to get the DDE would add another 50% to the cost of the game. Thus, physical edition.

Also I'm a sucker for a case that's going to actually last, rather than deteriorating to uselessness in the first week after opening.

Cloth maps are almost always really low quality these days.  I have no faith that EA will produce more than a bundle of loose threads in this case.  Maybe it'll be a nice one, with sewn edges, like the LotR Moria map, but I wasn't gonna hold my breath.

The "tin case" is just a standard Steelbook DVD holder.  It's not special like some others have been.  Examples of good "tin case" games are Fallout 3 and Silent Hunter 4 and Everquest 2.  All had really nice, custom metal cases.  DA:O is essentially nice, but standard, packaging.

Direct2Drive lets you download an install file.  You can install from that.  And really, if you ever find yourself without an internet connection reinstalling a game is the least of your worries.  Getting back online before anything else should be your priority!

Downloading the game digitally would use my entire bandwidth for the month, so I'll also be purchasing a physical copy of the game.

Regardless of bandwidth restrictions, 20 gigabytes, or there around, in itself is a lot to download.

Yeah that would do nicely. Great to get your teeth into.Image IPB

Maybe they should sell a manual for DA separately. A CE manual, even. With A4 pages and enough of them to give the postman a hernia.

Same here. Would be way to expensive to download the whole game. The dlc I can manage on my cap but a whole game is too much. I also like maps and cases.

They spent like a GAZZILION DOLLARS promoting this game.

That map better be made of silk_______or at least cotton.
