I don't know why this should be a staple of the franchise. In DA2 it made no sense. OK, people liked dog, I get it. Still, we should give the devs room to show us what they think awesome, instead of always just demanding to bring back something we liked in one game. I for one, look forward to having my mounts as pets. If I can ride my mabari into battle then I guess I would be down with that.

Why does it really bother you that people/fans really want the Mabari war hound/dog back. It really doesn't make any sense at all no matter what you say. The poll showed an overwhelming want for the Mabari Warhound!

*to the people/fans who are interested in these poll could you please revote because the poll was cleared accidentally.

I don't know if your poll is really formatted the best way.  You have 4 "yes" options vs. 1 "no" option.  It should really be broken into two questions:

Question 1: Should the Mabari War Hound Return?

- Yes

- No

Question 2: If yes, how should it be implemented?

- As a companion

- As a summon

- As an extra companion slot

- Only as a pet (not part of combat at all)

- As an NPC cameo

Ok, thanks. I'm going to create a new poll/survey.

Maybe you could link the new poll directly on the mabari thread that you're referencing?  So that you don't have to wait for a mod to merge the thread.

Thanks, it's done.

The only reason I voted "no" in the survey is because I thought mabari were supposed to be special and unique to Ferelden and even then, a good, trained one was somewhat rare. I love dogs (see avatar) but I'm ready for change when it comes to animal companions.

Maybe stick a Mabari in as a potential Familiar type option for a Pet Class spec. (IE: Ranger) Obviously that does us no good in Inquisition since it doesn't seem like pet specs exist, but I think you get the idea.

As an actual character... I have to say no. Dog was novel, appropriate and, for what he was, well-realized. The Novelty of the dog-that-kills-an-ogre can only carry an idea so far before you swap in someone who has something interesting to say.

maybe just one to guard my Skyhold keep...or a mabari platoon for the inquisition would be good too..."release the hounds!!"  B)

The logic of a dog being one place and not another makes no sense. Especially, in battle scenarios. This logic is like saying Golems shouldn't be in any other story or any animal that appears in any Dragon Age should be unique to it's setting which isn't logical at all.

I said no... I found their design not very attractive; maybe if they were cuter :P But it won't make sense for my Dalish inquisitor; why would he have a mabari as a pet? He'd more likely have a wolf raised from a pup or a forest cat or something. Or his faithful Halla, Charlie

Anyway, I never used Dog in DA:O and have only used it lately in DA2 while I'm playing on hard mode with just rogue Hawke and Fenris. It works well for fight scenes, but story-wise it's ridiculous how this magical dog puffs into existence.

I agree with this, it also made less sense to me in DA2 that you were fighting so many mabari as enemies.  I'd like to see them in DAI in the spots where we go to ferelden, but not when we are elsewhere

We'll probably see some Mabari dogs in the game but that's probably it. I honestly don't want a Mabari companion/summon because we've had it two times in a row. I love the dog, it's just that familiarity breeds contempt and I don't want that.

I love that you would call 35ish% of 40 or so votes overwhelming support for a franchise that sells millions of copies. Diluted much?

I liked "Dog" in both games but didn't like him so much as a companion in DA:O.

He worked nicely as a summon in DA2 but seemed like an afterthought really.

If they do bring "Dog" back i would only like it as a summon or part of the ranger, familiar, skill set. One thing i really enjoyed in DA:O was having my own pet following me around.

I don't mind the dog returning, but I'd want it to be quieter than it was in Origins if it does. In Origins the dog would constantly bark in camp and it drove me crazy. Muzzle it, or make it quieter if it must return.

At this point, I want Dog back just for symmetry's sake.

...I suppose I can just name my mounts "Dog" if need be.

kinda disappointed that the dog scaled very poorly in both origins and awakening.

sure, aoe stun at lv 3 and 100% humanoid pin with heavy damage, but the overall move list is just atrocious; even the awakening additions won't do the trick.

I understand if he can't have any shield, 2h, archery or dual wield talents, but templar dog or spirit warrior dog or berserker dog would definitely garner a chuckle.

Why did it not make sense?

It did, the Hawkes were nobility (at least the mother of Bethany, Carver and the protagonist was - and their father was a mage), so them having a mabari is not totally against the lore (do we know how old they can become? - Maybe it was a present to Leandra, from when she liven in Kirkwall?)...;)

greetins LAX

ps: Yeah, I think it is a good idea and I like the idea of having a pet (one that can fight) in each DA-Game and the Mabari (because they are intelligent, too) fit that spot perfectly :)
