I am not certain I'm posting this topic in the appropriate forum, but doubtlessly someone will set me straight if that's the case. I'm having a problem with exporting .xls files to 2DA via the Excel Processor. I've tried both the drag & drop method and by adding 2DA export to the Windows file explorer [as explained here]. Everything was done correctly. The only issue is, no corresponding .gda files are created. I do not get any errors, the Excel Processor window pops up and does its work, only to disappear with no determinable results. I've run searches for the .gda files just in case Excel Processor created them elsewhere, but they are nowhere to be found on the entire drive. I can only conclude they simply aren't created, or do not appear. This is the issue with using the Excel Processor by whatever method. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the cause of this problem or how to fix it? In fact, if anyone can offer a different method of exporting .xls files to 2DA I'd also be obliged. My projects will not move onwards until I figure this out, and unfortunately I am at a loss. I'd be grateful for any information. Thanks in advance.

If there's no file, it probably ran into an error. I'm not familiar enough with the tool to know what the errors might be, but if you open a Command Line prompt and run the excelprocessor through that, you should be able to see some garbage getting spewed out.
I think using other methods the console is either hidden or pops up and disappears too fast to see what the error was.

If you are trying to process files created with OpenOffice, it won't work. You can get it to sort of work if you add you new table as a worksheet in an existing .xls file that you know works. You will still have trouble if there are any floating-point value in your table. If you use Excel you shouldn't have any problems though.

What floating point errors have you run into? It works for me so far with OpenOffice anyway, as long as I do that worksheet-from-an-existing-2DA trick. I recall hearing that google docs should also let you save a working XLS if you don't have Excel.

I use Excel. No errors are displayed but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. So am I to understand that the only way to export said files is through the ExcelProcessor, and if that yields nothing, then I can kiss my work goodbye?

You could just use "open with" your excel spreadsheet with the excel processor. Drop and drag also doesnt work for me, but the one I just told you works for me

With Openoffice, save as XLS excel 97? I got no problems i just did my first.
Verin..
My secret trick is now a drag and drop BAT file. Probably you may try that. It keeps the window open, so you can see any message. And the files will be there ,i lost a few as well that are *somewhere* now lol
I also use it for MMH.XML and MSH and ANI files as well.
Edit.. the forum doesnt accept the contents of my BAT file
You remove one \\ where there are 2
And god this is crazy now there are 5´4\\

ZackArnold, your method worked for me. I'm suprised to say the least, but thank you for sharing it with me. Eshme, thank you as well for the tip. It'll be useful, not least to keep the window open in case I need to look it over. I'm much obliged to all of you who decided to help out.
By the way, Eshme, I think that the forum has a problem with single slashes and 'adds' extra ones, for some reason. I've seen this happen before.

Just to answer this question. I wasted a day trying to figure out why my new materials weren't working. I did everything right. I read every tutorial I could find. I finally discovered when I looked at my GDA file with GDApp that most of the floating point numbers in my XLS file had been converted to integers in the GDA file. I no longer use OpenOffice though so I haven't had any trouble since.

Just FYI - I was having the same problem reported in this thread - drag and drop onto excelprocessor did not produce output. The advice to 'open with' excelprocessor worked AOK - I am using Office 2003.
Thanks for the good guidance.
