Would be nice if it was possible for your character to get pregnant or companions(like Morrigan) or even adopt children(like Skyrim),and enjoy your time together after saving the world.

Nope. Well, I wouldn't mind saving an orphanage?  But I don't want any pregnancy in my game. My Inquisitor had a hysterectomy, just like I did. No babies for us.

But...adoption. I'm not necessarily opposed to that. I just don't see how it'd work in the setting they've divulged so far.

This is not The Sims: Inquisition.

More technically, it is difficult to implement in a semi-persistent setting. It's bad enough having the Warden-Commander and Hawke running around when they aren't in the game. They have the be handwaved out of the business already. How you treat the futures of characters will affect what you can do in the future without taking them apart. Imagine if the Warden and Leliana went off and had two kids and lived out their days in peace after DA:O. How would that work when there's a mage-templar war raging and the world is going bonkers? What, the Warden just tells everyone he's retired and too busy with the rugrats? It just doesn't work out.

Sounds like a tagline for the next Fable game. I generally just assume that my heroes go on to have that kind of boring family life, with freaky elf/asari kids, so I'm happy for the game to be adventuring and adventuring only.

Well there must be lots of kids caught in the middle of all this chaos, like in 1 concept art was showing a Mage holding a baby while Templars attack.

There were some quests involving kids in previous games, would be nice if we run into some parentless kid running away from a demon and save him/her and take him/her under our protection or something similar.

And I would be glad to rescue any baby in distress. So long as I didn't have to spawn the thing myself.

Well when it comes to marriage, kids and all that it would make a nice ending to the game, but only as the ending and differ in result depending on who you romanced. No need to go around fighting with a baby bump.

Well Oghren have a family and he is a Grey Warden and joined the Ferelden army.

Morrigan possibly having a child depends on player's actions, although she might not have an active role in DAI.

Lol am I the only one not opposed to the idea? :P ;)

I think adoption, possibly of an older child, might make some sense in the context. Like after everything is done, your PC can choose what kind of life they can live afterwards. Maybe could be done post-game, as apparently we'll still be able to play it once it's done. Post game has never held appeal to me - because it feels off, having no purpose anymore. But I would not be opposed to playing Sims Inquisition after the main game is over. :P

I don't think I'd very much enjoy playing a pregnant Inquisitor, but adopting an older child could work if it was done right. As long as the child in question is more Clementine from the Walking Dead and less Amalia from Honnleath. I HATED Amalia.

Honestly I think DAI would be better without kids. I love Bioware, but I don't think they could top Clementine.

It would be fun if in one of the endings you end up with a family, but not while playing the game itself. Marriage could be fun, perhaps to some important leader.

Non-canon ending. If you choose to pursue your romance and express the desire to settle down, it results in a non-canon ending wherein you elope with your lover and let the world burn.

One of the problems faced with games is any attempt to create a family element either comes across as something that is forced upon the player or something that feels too tacked on. Skyrim adoption / marriage and Fable's family mechanic are excellent non-invasive features which are a nice touch - but would probably come across as far to tacked on for a BioWare game where every rock has a story (well - used too).

While I don't think there is a way that it could be handled well enough to fit in without the problems - I do believe games like this need a strong in game 'downtime'. Ignoring the argument made by people about how 'it's a full on disaster / invasion / war - there is no time for breaks!!11!2@!' because it's a moot and outright silly argument. Dragon Age 2 was a game that sorely could have used some kind of more fun / relaxed / downtime mechanic to offset the kind of fatigue a full on disaster game can cause. Dragon Age 2 was just bad on bad thrown at you from start to finish. In television and movies there is usually humour to break it up so you're not gutted every 20 minutes without reward (except The Mist - that just wanted you to feel bad).

the "when this end, I'd like to start a family" it would be cute with the right characters. I don't need to actually see this, but is not a kind of ending/dialogue I would hate to see.

I like to have different charcters with different goals in life. I can have the one who would hate too many boundaries, and flee to the next adventure, so she would not even think about having children or marring. or one who just find she has enought adventures for a lifetime, and can find happiness settling down with her lover.

so...if it is an option: great, it would be appropriated for some of my characters. If it is mandatory, no thanks. I prefer a more vague thing.

Hey, excellent point! I hadn't thought about this, but now I know exactly what you mean.

I want something to break up the doom and gloom for sure.

It's not really something I'm against, but I don't think it would fit within the narrative of a Dragon Age game like this. I feel like Dragon Age 2 would be a better opportunity to explore things like this.

Am I the only one who remembers the well-intentioned WTFery of having a baby in your inventory?

Anyway, I'd definitely much enjoy the well fleshed out option to be a highly influential parental or older sibling figure to an (orphaned) character or two between the ages of eight and sixteen or so.

But having a baby yourself? No, thank you. It'd throw a mighty wrench into the balancing of male and female Inquisitors for one, and there'd also be no real benefit to it unless a game were to literally span decades and/or generations of player characters. There are some fine (Japanese) games that do such, but I have yet to see one which handles that aspect wholly satisfactorily.

This.  I don't care if someone else wants to end their game with 10 kids running around a farm tending the cows, chickens and playing hide and seek in the barn.  But I don't plan on doing it.

Like the idea of helping someone out, maybe finding them a family which I did in FA3.  Helped the kid find his aunt and actually enjoyed having Mission around in KOTOR but she was quite capable of taking care of herself.

I love Skyrim and I adopt 2 kids then leave them with whoever is watching the house, don't see them for months on end.  Love sims too, and I have a babysitter who lives with the family  :D to takes care of them.

It's not something I care about one way or the other.   I just want my inquisitor and LI to survive once in awhile, then they can do what they want after I turn the computer off. (yes Tron was an idea i liked a lot. What are they doing in there when I'm not around.)

Yeah, this sort of thing is really the only way I think that the post game stuff will appeal to me, since bioware characters appeal to me. I remember trying to play post-game in Fable 2 and just thinking 'What's the point? I already own the most expensive house, and the only way I'm going to make my character less ugly is giving up all my levels and I don't CARE AT ALL ANYMOOOOOORE'

maybe if they'd let us meet the resurrected sister, but eh.

Perhaps... as long as it's not like the Sims.

Do games really need to have real pregnancy? I mean, unless it's a game ABOUT pregnancy, to me it seems silly you have the whole thing be real. This is fantasy after all. Don't care if video games portray realistic pregnancies. First point being that the pregnancy isn't the central concern of the game. These are video games, they're made to entertain players, not educate players. That's what high school is for.

The Sims also have witches, werewolves and zombies, does that mean they shouldn't be there just because they're not real? eh? ;)

Like the Fable series and Skyrim ? I wouldn't mind it but they've already ruled out us having children, and probably adopting them.

Mark Darrah
@user you will not have children in DAI. Not ruling it our forever
