(This is a support thread for the inclusion of a nature magic skill tree, assuming such does not already exist in the game.)

Based on the revealed specializations, it seems likely there will be no nature-based spell tree for the Mage in the game upon release, unless it was made a basic skill tree. This is excluding the Creation school, which appears less about the tangible aspects of nature, a la the Keeper specialization.

Discuss what you would like to see in a nature-based skill set.

Specializations for DA2: Spirit Healer, Blood Mage, Force Mage.

None of those have anything to do with nature magic, but there was still a nature magic skill tree. I suspect it will be about the same this time around.

nature spells? shamanism ?!

HERESY!

I vote to burn all those elf tree huggers for heresy!!!

in more serious note iirc in origins and DA:2 there was "Nature" oriented spell group in the mage skill tree.

That's why this thread exists. To support a nature magic skill tree in future DLC, if not the vanilla game.

Creation? Yes, I linked that in the OP. Not exactly nature magic in the sense being referred to here.

Yes; a companion-specific skill tree and a DLC specialization.

Hopefully we get the latter for DA:I, if it's not in the vanilla as a basic school of magic.

Nature based? Ah well... i'm more the black lightning and acid type.

These druid-like things were never my favorite choice.

I believe I made a topic about this in relation to dalish mages some time ago.
My idea was that the primal school be expanded upon.
For example, chain lightning and tempest would represent the magic of the sky, and stone and plant spells would represent the magic of the earth.
Spells would include rock armor, chain lightning (for mages who wish to use lighting without dabbling into the primal school at the cost of missing out on the elemental spells of fire and ice), tempest, stonefist.
Now originally I thought that petrify should be replaced by an entangle spell ( in the comics both yavana and Maevaris both use this type of spell and aren't dalish) however after reading The Masked Empire and reading Felassan in action,I think rather than earthquake be an ultimate type spell, natures fury should be, and keep petrify.
I know it's only one plant spell, but it'll be epically cool.

There wasn't a lot of nature damage in DAO either. Stinging Swarm as far as spells, Poison Spit with Spider Form, normal attacks with Swarm Form, and all the Keeper spells. If you're not going to have Shapeshifter/Keeper, you shouldn't expect nature magic either.

Personally, I'd rather wait for a potential DLC specialization focused entirely on nature (flora-based) spells, than to just have one or two mixed into another tree. Although, if it's that or nothing, I'll take it. I personally never liked the Primal tree, though.

As for what I'd like-combine the abilities from Shapeshifter and Keeper into one nature magic school, and add a few more nature spells as well.

There was no nature magic skill tree in DA2 as far as I can recall. "Primal" and "Elemental" are, in terms of lore, part of the same school of magic - the Primal School, or School of Power. It's nature-based only so much as you are manipulating elemental energies, but that's it. Apart from Merril's spells, I don't think there was anything for the PC to do with plants or thorns or whatever the Dalish like doing.

Personally I don't really mind, I love the elves but I really don't like Dalish magic. It's too... wild. I prefer something more "civilized", shiny, very magical and very shiny, yes. But yes, if they do something with nature I'm pretty sure it would be Dalish/Keeper magics. I would be sad if they allow it for everyone though, it's supposed to be Dalish-exclusive.

Felassan will be my basis for what my dalish Mage can do in combat - fire, ice, lightning and stone spells FTW.
However, if evil possibly necromancy...if fitting, rift Mage, if not knight enchanter might be a good fit

Well, my canon Warden is a Dalish Elf Mage (Hue hue hue mods) and I loved being themed around a keeper. Primal, shape-shifting, having the actual Keeper specialization itself, etc.

In DA2, I found myself playing Merrill more than my actual Hawke. I just dig the nature theme, I don't know why! I'm hoping for a keeper-esque specialization in DA: I, but if not, I'll have to put up with the Primal school. Or play the heck out of a Primal-themed Solas. Hmmm.

For nature magic, why not more animal control/summoning, instead of more unrealistic vines of doom. Earth Benders were terrifying in the last airbender (cartoon...none of that M.Night Shamas**t), but anywhere else theres earth guys, they are a joke

Well the earth spell animations for stonefist , rock armor and petrify in dragon age 2 looked very earth bender - I'm hoping they keep the style for inquisition.

I Agreed, I really loved the night elves in WarCraft series ... had something mystic and "primitive magic, but clean"

If necromancer magic can raise the dead, why not mages can not use the power of nature?
