EDI in particular is my favorite squadmate in the series. Javik's around fourth or so, too.

Really, there's only 2 squadmates I like in ME3, Javik and James. I tolerate Kaidan, and he can be a bit more insightful. The rest can die painfully. After breaking their spirit and motivation down to dust and watching them break as characters of course.

Xen's the best character in the entire trilogy. I wish I could have her as an actual squaddie instead of just the lame cameo she gets if Tali gets offed in ME2, preferably with completely overpowered tech attacks like a quarian version of Aria.

Raan also shows some brass by blasting that bosh'tet Legion wannabe stupidshit Geth VI with a shotty when it dared to defy the will of my renegade psychopath murdershep.

It's just wrong in general that I can't invite the Admiralty board to my Citadel party. Gerrel seems like he knows how to party.

From most to least favourite.

 

1. Garrus - Who doesn't love Garrus?!

2. Ashley - It's Ashley. And this game even has drunk Ashley. So, yay!

3. EDI - Really loved what they did with EDI in this game.

4. Javik - Kneel before Javik, everyone. He may not be very nice, he certainly is interesting and got along well with my politicians-hating Shepard

5. Tali - I love Tali, and always will, though didn't really use her all that much in this game.

6. Liara - Same as Tali, even though she was my LI here.

7. James - Don't get me wrong, Vega was a great squadmate. He's just less of a great squadmate when compared to all the others.

The following ranking is not based on how I feel about the characters personality, but rather by how well I feel the characters's functions within the story.

 

1. Javik - Easily the most well desgined character present in the game, and the only truely new and interesting character the writer's good give us.

2. Kaidan - suprisingly dynamic, the character of kaiden is very solid and for fits in very well with his role.

3: EDI - While I abhor the "Machines are people, too"  mentality , Edi fits well within the narrative  and like Javik, EDI provides unique and insights.

4: Tali - Similar to Liara,  though tali has slightly more depth to here. Would have had a good arc if not for all the contrivances and oversimplifications.

5: Liara - tolerable, actually. Liara does have quite a few interesting points to her as well as having a very solid romance, but it's all  rather superifical. 

6: James -  James is a very shallow character. He doesn't stick out like a sore tumb. but he doesn't add much either.

7: Ashley - A good character which did not work in this game at all. The role of the VS was desgined with Kaidan in mind and Ashley suffers from it.

8: Garrus - Very static and redundant character, adds nothing of value to the narrative other than a possible friendship and/or romance.

ME3

 

1) Liara - I find her invaluable

2) Kaidan - Not one of my favorite characters, but he is very versatile - fits in well with every mission.

3) James - Not a fan of james, but he's a damn tank. He has never died on me.

4) Edi - Her overload and incinerate are very useful.

5) Javik / Ashley - Both are pretty decent. Ashley can take a lot of damage,

6) Garrus / Tali - Love both of them, but don't use them as much as the others. Tali is definitely a must for Geth fights. Garrus is much better in ME3 than ME2 (I found that he died on me quite a bit in ME2)

 

Citadel DLC - I always bring Wrex along
