Why or why not?

If you did both, which do you prefer?

Yeah, I make Alistair do it. Never seen the US outside of YouTube.

Self-preservation instinct. Keeping Morrigan in the party is a bonus.

Convinced Alistair to.

I don't think my Warden really cared what happened to the OGB. She just didn't want to die for the Wardens, Ferelden, or any of that - and didn't want someone else to go die for her, either.

I always make Loghain do it. Since my warden is pretty much no longer relevant beyond DAO and I dislike US

I usually romance Morrigan so, yeah. Really no point in not doing by then.

Yes. It's the only way both alistair and I live .... unless I do the US or have Alistair do it. It depends on my PC. Usually I romance alistair and so he does it. The few times I've romanced Zevran, once I let Alistair do the US and the other time I made him king with anora and had loghain do it. If I romance Zev I spare alistair sex with her either through loghain or US (him or my PC). Too bad there's not a mod that allows you to tell her to ****** off and everyone survives.

I played a game where I chose a paragon PC... Who in the final stage, cracked, and slept with Morrigan just to simply save his own life. It made, for me, a interesting finale.

Depends on the playthrough,of course.

On my main character, I get nothing from it. I like Loghain, and don't care if I lose Alistair. And turn Morrigan away when she asks me to kill Flemeth early on. I've yet to come up with a compelling reason to kill Flemeth on any character actually... other than just to do it for kicks. So Morrigan is out of the game for quite some time as it is.

The most obvious reason is to, you know, just believe that Flemeth is going to bodysurf into Morrigan and continue doing so. I mean, Flemeth refuses to actually deny planning that, after all.

Even if you don't, Flemeth is a fabled monster of legends who makes a game of killing templars, seduces men then kills them, and Maker knows what else. Later on, it's implied she's not either blood mage, human, or abomination. She may have saved you, but that could've been done out of self-interest -- stopping the Blight -- than any actual altruism on her part.

Morrigan says Flemeth is a monster, so we better go kill her just in case Morri told the truth?

My first Warden had the choice of either humouring Morrigan or seeing the team deprived of its only anti-mage capability at five minutes to midnight. So she gave in. None of my other Wardens felt like appeasing Morrigan, and none trusted her to the degree of letting her waltz off with an OGB.

There's a lot of things said about Flemeth. I have no idea if any of it is true. For example, the thing with her kidnapping children. Her response in DA2 says a lot: "Hah! As if I have nothing better to do.."

It may be true, but I don't care to be one of those retarded Ferelden soldiers at Ostagar, who whispers tales of the Witches of the Wilds, and get nervous just thinking about it. And speaking in-character, my main is Dalish. There are a lot of stupid stories about the Dalish as well. And Merethari sums humans up: "These are simple people with simple fears.."

It's not just talltales. We also get bits like:
  • Leliana: My mother told me stories too. She was the one who kindled my love of the old tales and legends.
  • Morrigan: Hmph. my mother's stories curdled my blood and haunted my dreams. No little girl wants to hear about the Wilder men her mother took to her bed, using them till they were spent, then killing them. No little girl wants to be told that this is also expected of her, once she comes of age.
  • Leliana: I... uh... I see.
  • Morrigan: No, you don't. You really don't.

If you're willing to metagame a bit, and have read the novels, Flemeth first appears in her hut, visited by Maric and Loghain, surrounded by a shitload of strung-up corpses -- one of whom is fresh and is called "my newest trophy" by her. Though your Warden obviously should't know about that

It only proves that Flemeth likes folks to have certain ideas about her, and that she doesn't shrink from mishandling human remains for that purpose.

The only reason I'd kill Flemeth is if she was another Uldred (an abomination). It corresponds well enough after you give the book to Morrigan, since you just fought Uldred. You don't want another abomination running around.

Except even that is out the door now too. I can't exactly ignore that. Morrigan herself doesn't think she's an abomination anymore either.

In any case, I don't want to derail too much with this. My only hope is that fighting her or not actually matters, as a flagged event for future games. Does Flemeth care.. that matters to me. I don't want her chasing me down, if I offered her this small bit of kindness. I want this choice to matter.

In my first playthrough (Dalish rogue), I decided to not do the ritual and let Alistair do the US (self-preservation instinct kicked in right then).  After that, I always did the ritual either myself (if playing a male Warden) or by having Alistair/Loghain do it (if playing a female Warden).  Very few of my Wardens would be willing to die to kill the archdemon, and most of them have an additional incentive to live (i.e.: LI, in-game family, etc.).

For example:  My human-hating city elf wasn't about to die for a world that treated elves like trash, so he reluctantly agreed to the ritual.

My dwarf noble wasn't so much concerned with the possibility of dying, as much as he simply wanted to get laid.  :P

My elf mage (Alistair romance) didn't want Alistair to die and she didn't want to die herself, so she convinced Alistair to do the ritual.

My dwarf commoner was more interested in self-preservation so she practically ordered Loghain to do the ritual.

My human mage convinced Alistair to do the ritual because she wanted to make sure that everyone survived (she was more on the naïve side).

Personally, I wouldn't do the ritual with Morrigan, but I would try to convince Alistair to (I usually execute Loghain).

I have played both ways as female and once as a male (did the DR myself). I prefer the happy ending.

I've done both

The times I didn't do the ritual was to get the trophies for my Warden sacrficing herself, Alistair sacrificing himself and Loghain sacrificing himself otherwise I get Alistair to do the ritual

Not always, but more often than not. Because of reasons. Both of the meta and in-character kind. All of which shall remain my own.

I feel like if you've spent enough time earning morrigan's freindship she softens a bit so I'm more confident that she will raise the child better. I don't think she's evil then, so usually I do take the ritual option. People seem to belive the old gods themselves were evil but I'm not entirely sure. The taint was brought to the world by magisters and the taint makes damn near everything evil and violent.

Did the US once on my first playthrough. Because my warden didn't trust Morrigan, and just refused to speak with her. I was kind of upset about it...Well even if I DID know about it, he wouldn't have taken it anyway but, no one likes seeing their characters die u.u

Every other time? Yup. If I ever decided to spare Loghain though I wouldn't just let him die instead.

Yes-I think i did the US ending once for the achievement-or as many times as I needed to get the various achievements involved.

And even with all that I still would rather have her in morrigan's body than morrigan.

I always do the Dark Ritual but In my first finish of the game I did the US.  I didn't trust Morrigan  and I figured that It might leave a problem as big as the blight.  I really enjoyed the US ending though I only did it once.  I also did it with Alistair and Loghain.  I think I did Alistairs by mistake.  I don't remember if we discussed it or not.

Well I usually play a male and romance Morrigan so I usually do the ritual. If I don't romance her then I usually have Loghain or Alistair do it in my place. My few female characters have romanced either Zevran or Leliana and I do the same with them. The one time I did romance Alistair was as a female city elf and I refused Morrigan's ritual. Then Alistair went all hero on me and sacrificed himself before I could even think. I really enjoyed that playthrough, but I didn't like how everyone (except Wynne) just kinda forgot about Alistair.

Basically, I prefer the ritual if in a romance with Morrigan. Otherwise it's a toss up between watching Loghain/Alistair's terrified face during the ritual or sending them to die. I've never actually done the sacrifice myself.
