makes no sense to use it on anything beyond silver, but if you're going to, only put 4 points into it for detonate.

Phantoms, Banshees, Geth in general. I mean only more than half the enemies in the game aggro to it.

No fitness adrenaline mod engineer is a viable route to go. Engineer doesn't gain much from fitness (save for rank 5 shield recharge).

I actually find the drone a distraction to me more than to the enemies usually ;) I don't like having to check up on it to make sure it's doing what it should, in the right place, etc. The HE has such awesome synergy in incinerate/OL combos that I feel the drone is not as useful as on other characters. HE can wreck face just fine without it and probably more efficiently.

How well can you dodge Phantom palm blasts with AM3 on a vanilla Human?  FWIW they do 1050 damage per shot (out of cover).

I love my drone! His name is Steve!!! I do use my human engineer on platinim. My drone is all damage (4a)(5b)6a) my engineer's incinerate is set at rank 3...my overload is maxed to triple chain (4a)(5a)(6a) and my alliance training is set rank 5...(4b) (5a) to boost all my powers effectivness...i omitted rank 6 because i needed incinerate and my fitness is maxed because the engineer is squishy. I use the Geth plasma smg with the smg power magnifier V which gives me an additional 30% for my powers as well as the smg high velocity barrel V for the necessary armor piercing. My equipment: Ammo bonus is always incendiary rounds 3-4 to prime enemies for those beautiful tech explosions. Armor bonus is always a power amplifier 3-4 for the extra 30%-50% power damage. My Gear bonus is always an engineering kit V for an additional 15% to my powers and my weapon bonus is an smg rail amp 3. (Remember) the combat drone is a "Power" just like incinerate and overload so if you buff your engineer with power mods your drone will be formidable and your other powers will be incredibly effective. My build also works for the Geth engineer, Turian Sentinal (overload only) and the Paladin Sentinal. Hope that helps!!! :D

I run one w 66653 and one without 06666. That's the good part of the vanilla humans two specs

I suppose detonate, shock and rockets is a bad combo?

Yes, the Combat Drone will keep trying to move out of Detonate/Shock range in order to fire the rockets.

If you're going to use drone on gold or plat, it's not going to be used for damage. Instead it's for CC. Throw a drone behind a Prime to turn it around and give you a few precious seconds to wail on it. Throw it at a phantom to make her dance (and therefore an easy target). Throw it at a banshee to make her stop tossing warp balls and instead nova the drone (while you wail on her). Throw it at a group of bombers and they turn around and bomb your drone. All of these have the effect of taking fire off the players for a few seconds, which is usually all you need. The ridiculously short cooldown make it viable to toss out "throw away" drones constantly without interrupting your tech bursts / fire explosions.

So yeah, on higher difficulty levels drone is not for damage, but CC. (I wouldn't recommend rocket drone. Shock drone does this job MUCH better).

Also, once a drone saved me while I was doing wave 10 devices (Cerberus Glacier), so drone > typicall pugs.

Hmm, I read the wiki on Combat Drone once again and it says that Chain Lightning and Shock are two competing attacks (i.e. CL will not stagger, whereas Shock will stagger even Phantoms). In that case, I suspect I'd be better served with not getting CL  - use the drone as a Prime/phantom trolling device and use Incinerate/Overload for mook CC.

Something like this.

Is that true? Isn't CL just an upgrade from the default shock pulse, so it would happen regardless? I looked on the wiki and I didn't see where it said they were competing attacks. I would think rank 5 and 6 both happen simultaenously, but if 6 can override, I might reconsider. I currently use just a 3-point drone and a no-drone build, but after my last adventure with phantoms, I want to respec. I could just use a venom, but the fire/tech combos are too precious for me to forgo.

...

The rank 5 Shock attack is independent of the rank 6 Chain Lightning attack. The Chain Lightning evolution directly affects the drone's default "zap" attack. The Shock evolution gives the drone an additional type of attack. In other words, despite a common misconception online, the Chain Lightning evolution will not let the rank 5 Shock attack chain to multiple enemies.

...

Taken from here, under Mechanics.

I've been using the 56645 build I posted above and have been having great fun with it. The Drone trolls hard certain enemies like the geth slime and phantoms and for every other mook there's Overload. I make a 6/6 tech/fire combos, since I'm using non-priming ammo type. Unless the Drone gets a lucky detonate, then it's 6/5.

So, wait, if Chain Lightning is a direct upgrade for the default drone attack, then wouldn't that mean that the default attack is already "competing" with Shock and that Chain Lightning is still an improvement over R5? (especially when an exploding drone causes a TB).

The default attack is already competing with Shock and Chain Lightning will not change that.  If you have chosen Shock for rank 5, then Chain Lightning is the logical choice for rank 6.  You don't choose Rockets because it will cause the Drone to move out of Shock range.
