It looked like a cheesy "spellbook" at first until Gaider confirmed otherwise. Still though, a floating book? Eh.

I thought "cheesy" was a running theme in the Dragon Age games? I mean just listen to Sarcastic Hawke's dialogue and more than half the jokes told throughout the series.

I actually thought it was really cool looking and would make a great alt weapon for Mages, so we don't always have to use a staff.

Maybe the people replying, otherwise they wouldn't even comment? Such indecency.

So we should be in an uproar over the fact that player mages wont get super awesome spellbook animations?

Okay, *clears throat*

I WANT TOMES AS ALTERNATE MAGE WEAPON!

I find being a medieval superhero to be silly - so I suppose we're at an impasse.

This is true. When I first noticed it, I thought it was out of place. Even though it's not my place to judge whether or not such things belong in this universe(Dragon Age I mean), they certainly felt weird. I think a lot of people agree with me when I say that a modern-style spell casting fits Dragon Age a lot better than the old cliche ones.

They should really continue with the style of DA 2 casting, that felt a lot more believable, for lack of a better word. Please don't bring back mages casting spells while chanting stuff "all dark entities come to me!".

DA2 mages were boring as hell compared to past bioware casters

Spellbooks are so much more unrealistic and NOT GRIMDARK ENOUGH compared to staves and magic swords and enchanted rings

Well I can't say I'm familiar with casters in other Bioware games, haven't played many, but they definitely improved the combat animations and voice work in DA 2 by a lot, compared to DA:O.

I'm confused. What's the assumption, here? Because there was an enemy spellcaster in the video with a floating book, that meant it was both a spellbook and that all casters would use spellbooks? Wouldn't it be better to ask if that was the case, rather than assume it was the case and rail against its supposed inclusion?

That's quite a feat when the word Grimoire has GRIM right in the name!

I HAVE played DAO, I'm criticizing about actually seeing a mage using them in combat is out of place, not the fact that mages could use books before battle or to learn new spells.

yep because ALL mages have photographic memories it seems. in the DA universe. Granted there is really no chanting, in DA universe. So meh. Doesn't mean you can remember how to do everything. *shrugs*

Enemy or no he looked like someone coming straight from Albion. If Peter Molyneux saw the video, he is tearing of joy.

I actualy really liked that spell with the book in the demo.

Sure I may not want to see my pc reading a floating books during every battle , but a few enemies from time to time ...I think it looks cool.

I liked the book as well. Not as an everyday weapon, but in special cases it'd be a nice change. Like, in DAO when you had the Litany of Adralla. In such situations reading from an actual book/scroll/etc. would be sweet.

I liked it.  It looked like a cool ritual was going on.  I could totally get into some spells having that kind of animation.

I think it looks fantastic and better than from what I see in the other game that has something similar
