So in this topic we want to discuss where is the best city, state (or province), country or region to live?

Specifically in three continents:

1) Europe (UK and the main Continent aka Europe)

2) North America (USA and Canada)

3) Asia (most likely East and South East Asia)

4) Southern Hemisphere

A Hypothesis about having the chance to choose where to live.

Factors to consider:

Climate, Job Opportunity & Economy, Public Service, Transportation, Culture & Society, National Prestige, etc.

For example.. You like to live in Marseilles, Osaka or Kansas City for whatever reasons.

Am I doing this? Yes, I suppose I'll give it a shot.

Top 2 countries: Norway and Canada. Primary reasons: Egalitarian politics; public safety; beautiful locales.

If I could choose, I'd move to Canada and Edmonton to get a job at BioWare.

Keep that up sir, and I won't rest until I've figured out a way to strangle people over the internet.

Isn't Scandinavia not attached to Europe via Finland/Russia?

If you don't mean that, forgive me if you live in one of those islands!

I live in Toulouse, Southern France. The weather is amazing, it's close to the sea, we have great food, wine, culture and locales.

However, I honestly find Munich even better, while it's colder the close proximity to the Alps and the booming and extremely stable economy make up for it. Germany in general might be one of the best places in the world to live, considering safety, economy, culture, public service and prestige. You'll just have to be able to afford the high taxes and tolerate the relatively center-left-wing politics.

France is more fun and offers a lot, but some cities are better than others here.

I am unsure as to why you have limited it to those particular locations? Surely you would just ask where in the entire world would you live if you had the choice? Not saying that just makes it look as though the rest of the world doesn't exist.

Some of the best places to live are in the Southern Hemisphere. eg: almost any city in New Zealand. London would rank very highly in the factors to consider, but it's still a crap place to live.

Beautiful Locales? They're both frozen wastelands!

If I had to choose somewhere to go, I'd choose the Houston area or one of the other cities along the Gulf Coast EXCEPT New Orleans (Let's build a city below sea level next to the sea! What could go wrong?)

Abundant industry, minimal personal restrictions, affordable housing, and so on.

New Zealand similar to Australia but with no poisonous beasties and a smaller population with wonderful wilderness.

It's also similar to England but the politicans behave better and the PM actually knows what he's doing.

I'm really not sure, but I will say Sweden and Australia. Why would I say my own country? Because apparently those are the 2 most "livable" places in the world, and I just happen to live in one of them (the latter). Being that I've never been overseas, I have little opinion on other countries and their livability.

My only notable opinions are on the United States: Don't live there because apparently most people own guns, and many of those people have them with them (I realise there is a waiting list for buying and owning guns, as well as possibly a permit being needed to own one). Also, killing sprees have a fair chance of happening, even in - or perhaps especially in - schools. Also, hurricanes/cyclones/tornadoes happen a lot there.

I often here about countries having earthquakes. My country, however, is situated on a tectonic plate, so we very rarely get them. In fact, my only experience with being in an earthquake is being told by my mum that "there was an earthquake in Canberra last night." I slept right through it, and have no recollection of waking up or having a dream about the tremour, so I may as well not have had an experience with earthquakes.

Oh, I don't know. I heard him (the British Prime Minister) talking on the news once, and he seemed very well informed, and fairly insightful. It was radio, too, so no pictures to alter my absorbing of information - pure audio for all my listening needs. :)

So which other USA states are good? Are Kentucky, Colorado, Washington, Virginia and Pennsylvania any good?
