I apologize if there is an old and comprehensive post giving me these exact answers but I couldn't find one...I'm having trouble getting the dialog with sten at the redcliff chantry. I know I am supposed to get it once we leave but I've had no luck. Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

I know the denerim dialog doesn't trigger unless you only have him in your party the first time you go there but that doens't seem to work at redcliff

I noticed with RTO that Sten's dialogue only came when I took Alistair out of the party. It might be something similar with Redcliffe.

The best way to get it would be to kick everyone but Sten out of the party before talking to Thomas at the bridge. Go through Teagans dialog and exit the Chantry, but do it slowly. That is, click the door, wait until the area loads and be still for a moment. You might have to take one or two steps, but don't go down the stairs. That should trigger the dialog.

You can only get it the first time you step out of the Chantry. Entering and exiting the Chantry will not trigger the dialog.

If you play on the Pc and don't mind mods, you could try installing Improved Atmosphere. It has a component which causes all the area comments to trigger. So if you went to Orzammar and saw the tavern there, all the companions would comment on it, not just one of them.

Yes, I don't care for the fact that certain people override others in dialogue. Let them all make the comments. Alistair and morrigan seem to get preference. If they are in your party, they are the commenting members. But if you take them as a norm then you never hear the other comments from the rest of the party. Kind of a bad design. At least in ME series it was designed that both your parties would say what they would say rather than one overriding the other. And of course, sometimes it was funny banter. Pluses for that.

Wow, i didn't know some companion comments overrode others. I'm not surprised about who those companions happened to be though...

I'm going to try and do this. I have Alistair or Morrigan in my party a lot. So i'm guessing i've missed a shitload of dialogue from other people.

Alistair and Morrigan are always bickering. It's actually not fun. Well maybe once it's amusing, but after a while it gets old. I never bring morrigan anymore because of it.
