Will be like a bad joke.
A human, an elf, a dwarf and a qunari were going about the countryside when BLAM!!! Fade tear!

I generally go with the standard mage, archer, tank, dps setup, so probably my mage inquisitor (haven't decided the race. Maybe Qunari, if not an elf), then Sera because, well...
, then bearded warden because hot-damn that beard is majestic, then probably Varric on the shooty-shoot
I'm gonna try to vary it, though. Switch them out every once and a while, just so I can have different companions with me every now and again (as I am a fan of character development)
Unless I've missed a big info dump somewhere, I know little to nothing about pretty much everybody except Varric and maybe Cassandra. From what little I've gathered Iron Bull might be something like Black Whirlwind, who was my go to guy in Jade Empire, so I'll likely use him. That and Sten was awesome in DA:O.
My current plan is to start off playing a Mage, so I guess I'll have Iron Bull to tank, some rogue to open chests and the character I choose to romance would likely be my third choice. I'm hoping that's Viv since I like to romance my mages with other mages.
I always have a tank, rogue and healer in my party. I usually play as either a mage or a rogue. If I'm the rogue, the other rogue characters generally get left behind unless I need them for some reason. As a mage, I don't play a healer, so I always have one of those in my party regardless. The decision of which tank, etc to use usually comes down to effectivenes in battle. With all those considerations, my choices are often made for me. For example, in DA2, I had no choice but to use Anders as my healer (didn't mind) but could choose between Aveline or Fenris as a tank (depending on how I built Fenris) and Varric and Isabelle were interchangable. At that point, I went with personality. I try to avoid combinations where the companions are constantly bickering or hate every choice I make. So, my main party usually consisted of Aveline, Varric and Anders. I'll follow the same formula in DAI. At this point, I just don't know enough about the companion's abilities and personalities to know who will be in my party.
DHMG will surely be always in my party.
Also, since I dont feel much interest for Iron Bull or the Warden, I think I will play first as a 2h warrior and have then:
- 2h Warrior Inquisitor
- Cass tank
- DHMG mage
- Changing between Varric, Vivienne, Solas, Sera and Cole...
Tank: Iron Bull
Main DPS: Mage Qunquisitor
Rogue: Varric
Healer/Support: Vivienne/Solas/Dorian/whoever capable of healing.
I agree with maia0407. My parties usually boil down to effectiveness in battle. That and, in extreme cases, who isn't bickering the entire time I pull them along. With that in mind, my parties would probably be:
Qun!quisitor (rogue)
Cassandra
Solas
Iron Bull or Grey Warden
Qun!quisitor (warrior)
Cassandra
Sera
mage (any)
I have more play throughs in mind, but building a team would require knowing more about the other companions. (As I found myself writing mage (any) and warrior (any) )
Meh I am really trying to be open minded until I get to know the characters more when I play the game and learn their personalities and how they mesh with my Inquisitor as I develop them.
But so far:
Male Mage:
Cassandra,
Varrc,
Vivienne.
Female Rogue:
Varric
DHMG *assuming the rumors about him are true*
then either the Warden or Cass Cass.
I have no idea yet, and neither should anyone else in my opininion. There's too much we don't know about most of the companions.
From what we know so far i'd probably go with Cassandra, Varric, and Iron Bull.
Hmm... assuming that the speculation on the companions is at least somewhat accurate, I will likely go with this group simply based on the likelihood of awesome banter:
- Male Magequisitor
- Varric
- DHMG
- Sera or Feathers depending on whether or not Knight Enchanter (or something that a Necromancer can animate) can tank.
Edit: Ah, I just realized that I contradicted my "based on the likelihood of awesome banter" line with the last one about tanking. What can I say? I'm a practical guy. ![]()
have I answered this yet? I can't remember
obviously I don't know anywhere near for sure given the glaring lack of knowledge we have on most of the companions, but I'm thinking:
Femquisitor, elf or qunari, class undecided
Cole
Solas
Sera
tho it does pain me not to have cass and varric too.. we'll have to see.

Two mages (one DD, one support), rogue and 2h warrior for damage-dealing and aggro. My first run will most likely be Qunari archer, so that means Iron Bull and any two mages who qualify.
Although if there's no cross-class combos in DAI, my party may very well end up being different, except for IB. ))
I'd probably take Cassandra and Varric everywhere with me. I don't know about the rest of the party.
Cassandra,Varric,Iron Bull.

I'm really interested in this installment mainly because of the companions. They really caught my eye...so this is a really difficult question. Good one though! It's never too early to start planning and I'm mostly choosing based on who I want to interact with and if I need a tank to guard a mage I make.
Let's see, for my first character, a warrior - DHMG, Sera, and Solas.
I'll probably have Iron Bull, Cassandra, and Beardy Warden for my second, likely mage or rogue. But I don't know, I have a feeling I'll want DHMG around for every character I make, and my second choices will likely come along on my first playthrough as well here and there.
Warrior Inquisitor
Dorian
Blackwall
Varric
I need to know how the player and companion classes play out first. Honestly, until I get more direct gameplay information about the various classes, it's just too early for me to tell. The only one for sure that I know is very unlikely to ever leave my party is Varric.
I'm thinking elf mage inquisitor with Cassandra, Sera and Dorian instead of Solas, Sera and Dorian now...
I anticipate that I'll be spending a fair amount of time with Dorian, Blackwall, and Varric, but a lot will depend on who is available when and under what circumstances.
Did I post here previously? Can't remember. I do know that I'm liking a lot of what I hear about Sera, so much she may actually replace Varric in my non-rogue parties. Heck, I may even drag her around in a rogue party anyway.
Right now, it's shaping up to be:
Female Qunari Rogue (canon)
Iron Bull
Cassandra (possibly Sera or Varric)
Dorian
Male Human Mage
Sera
Blackwall
Varric
Female Dwarf Warrior
Varric
Vivienne
Iron Bull
Poor Cole doesn't really have a slot anywhere. Then again, there may be so much content I do more playthroughs than planned, so I'm sure I'll work him in somewhere.
Inquisitor, Cassandra, Varric, Blackwall/Solas/Sera/Dorian/Iron Bull (can't decide yet who I like better, they all look so good
)
Actually, though, I'll probably switch out a bunch of different characters trying trying to manipulate approvals and get different party banter, anyways, hahaha
Female qunari warrior, Dorian, Sera and Iron Bull in my first PT.
