Since my first character is going to be a qunari warrior, I'll be going for this party:

Solas or Dorian for healing and support
Vivienne (who I'm assuming is better for offensive magic)
Sera (crowd control and interesting party banters she's bound to generate)

since i'm going to be playing a dagger-wielding rogue, i'm planning on the following:

 

cassandra as my tank

vivienne for both for healing and offensive magic

sera for ranged attacks and because she's adorable

alternatively solas instead of sera if i need another magic user who's more offensive

Dwarf Male Rogue with Blackwall, Varric, and Sera

 

Exchange Blackwall or Sera for Cassandra depending on whether I can get her to leave the chantry.

It's kind of in flux, but currently I'm thinking:

 

#1 male elf rogue: Cole, Solas, Blackwall

#2 female human mage: Sera, Vivienne, Cassandra

#3 male dwarf warrior: Varric, Dorian, Iron Bull

 

#1 Because in the end I simply love Cole too much not to have him in the main party of my main Inquisitor. And I kind of hope that I'll able to get into Solas's pants. And Blackwall seems like a good fit to round out that particular party (but might be replaced by Cassandra).

#2 All-female party FTW! Although I might very well switch things around some to have one female companion per party again, as had been the case in my prior plans before my resistance to Cole finally crumbled away like an old battered biscuit.*

#3 All hail the dwarf brodom! And I kind of like the visual of two little dwarves and one huge qunari leaping into the fray (with some magic assistance from Mr. Moustache—or otherwise Madame de Fer).

 

*Actually, that sounds like a good idea. Not really sure yet whether I'll get around to play a female qunari mage (as #4), but I kind of like the all-female party visual for that Inquisitor even more than for my #2.

I'm going to be a tanking Qunari Juggernaut, so my Party will most likely include:

 

- A mage (duh), I'm tending towards Vivienne, simply because i fancy her as a Love Interest, but I will have this depending on who is the most useful healer.

 

- A ranged attacking Rogue: Varric comes to mind, since he does seem more useful, but Sera remains an Option. Cole is out for being a Melee.

 

- A Melee Warrior: Iron Bull fits the Bill reasonably well, form what we've seen, but Blackwall may be also an Option. Cassandra is out for being a Tank.

Blackwall will be my tank

Sera will be my archer/lock picker/ pickpocketer (hope that makes a return!)

The last slot will either be a mage or a warrior (Cassandra)

My Male Human Mage will take Sera and Cassandra. Sera, because she's the one I like most of the ones revealed thus far, and Cassandra, because I'm saving Iron Bull for my second playthrough and the little we know about Blackwall doesn't do it for me. The forth spot is whoever he will romance. In my mind, this is currently DHMG, but since most romances are still up in the air, it's kind of a 'free spot".

I try to pick the ones who know a little bit of info about the place I'm going. For example, if I'm going to meet Dalish people, I might take an elf with me.

I'm going to need a rogue so I guess that's Varric and a couple of large tanks so my mage can spend her time roasting* the enemy (*or whatever it takes).

Hell if I know, I've barely been keeping track of things, but from what I've seen I like Sera and Iron Bull.  Probably round it off with Cassandra.  Which Probably means I have to be a mage...might have to rethink that...

It depends on who I'm romancing. Obviously, Sera will be in my party for my Revas playthrough, and I'll need a healer, so probably Solas (which works because Revas hates humans)... and I guess the third would be Iron Bull? Since he's a warrior, and, y'know, not human.

Hayden will probably romance Dorian. I'll still need a healer, so Solas again, and probably Iron Bull or Cassandra.

If Cassandra is bi, Issala will be bringing her, along with a healer i.e. Solas, and I guess... Vivienne, maybe.

Finally, Samahl... I guess it depends on what other male options there are. The only guys I find attractive are Dorian and Cullen, but I hate Cullen, so idk... maybe if he proves himself not to be insufferable, I'll go with him, leaving three slots open, for Solas, possibly Dorian... or Varric? Whoever meshes best with Samahl's personality.

(this is assuming all my pcs are rogues - I might change my mind later, of course, but I love playing assassins)

I originally wanted to roll a full-mage party but that was before more details about the companions came around.

 

My first PC will be a male qunari mage, with Blackwall, Iron Bull and Dorian his main party. Blackwall will be my LI, assuming he is romanceable. Iron Bull is interesting, more so when the PC is qunari (thank you for reminding me). The last slot is either filled by Dorian or Solas but I'm leaning towards Dorian.

Will probably switch out Sera now and again with Varric (love his banter).

I tend to keep a healthy combo of 2 mages, 1 warrior, 1 rogue.

I'm seeing a lot of Sera. I mean, she seems interesting but I'm more surprised there isn't more Varrics or other physical DPS characters. Plus, there's Cole.

 

Anyway:

 

I'm having an incredibly hard time choosing my party because I like mages too much. I'm definitely going to start out a mage, but I reaaaallly like Dorian (I like the idea of him trying to redeem Tevinter) and I reaaaallly like Vivienne (especially that Maleficent fashion. Something about it..screams powerful woman). I also need a tankier character but...quite honestly..none of them interest me. I'll probably go for the warden just because there's no info on him and the IB and Cass don't interest me at all.

 

So I've kinda narrowed it down to

 

Mage Inquisitor

Dorian

Varric/Vivienne

Blackwall

 

Yeah...ok. I think that's ok. I might throw Solas in a couple of times instead of Varric/Vivienne but it's probably not likely. He looks like Nosferatu and that just creeps me out.

I'll probably try and change up the party as much as possible. That said my favorite setup would probably be Cassandra, Varric/Sera, and one of the mages. I plan to play either a damage based SnS warrior or 2-handed warrior, which combines well with a straight tank and then two ranged dps companions.

My first play through is usually about just playing the game for fun and learning it. I tend not to be a completionist with the game, but more of an experimenter.

 

On that note, I know I will switch through character a lot, just to see what they do.

 

Additionally, I tend to reject whomever Bioware pushes on me as the main character. AKA, Vivienne/Varic/Cassandra, it is just how I process. Instead, I go with the less mentioned characters, so I know I will be drawn more to Blackwall, the other mage who is not Vivienne etc.

 

So right now I am looking at

 

Inquisitor (Archer)

Blackwall

Solas (Other mage)

Whomever.
