You could say Alistair is similar to Richard in that both of them don't know real parentages until later (did Alistair know or was it hidden from him? It's been a few months since I've played DAO).
Alistair always knew who his father was - it was just always made explicitly clear to him that he would never be considered a royal. A bastard is just a bastard.
