I've seen the screenshots of the helmet, it looks a bit weird to me. If I had to choose between the two, I guess I'd go for the hat.

I think I'm going to be I the minority here but I'm going to have the helmet. While there's no denying the hat screams "swag" the helmet just roars "badassery".

Assuming the hat isn't just for Mages alone and rogues will get some equally good-looking, then I'm gonna go with that Swashbuckler look. The alternative is the tacky cartoonish-looking armor from DA2. So yeah, the former.

Same here, but that depends on how good the hoods are going to look in DAI.

Not that hat, maybe another like the hunter's hat in Dark Souls 2 if it exists in Inquisition. 

 

 

Lucatiel's hat was too big for my tastes.

 

 

Otherwise I'll just go for a character with a helmet as usual unless the character creation is actually good this time around...
