So i romanced thane in ME2 and he didnt die, and i just played the kai leng part and he didnt show up to try to stop him. why?

Does this mean i have to go meet each character personally?

If you don't go see Thane while he's shadow-boxing in the hospital, then Kirrahe sacrifices himself for the counselor and Thane dies alone.

What shadow-boxing and what hospital? I never got any information about thane in ME3 even after completion of ME2

You receive an email from Thane after the Palaven mission. He is in the same hospital as Ashley/Kaidan. You will see him on your left when you exit the elevator. The name of the hospital is Huerta Memorial.

Thane sends you an email about meeting him at Huerta Memorial at the same time that the VS sends you one saying "stop by and see me".

 

Even if you don't see the email, you can see him at the hospital shadowboxing at the window to your left as you enter the hospital any time before curing the Genophage.

Email is irrelevant.  Visit the hospital and look left.

It's too late now, i went there and he is dead i think, at least i've played the Citadel mission and he isnt there

Very Important: Whenever you are on the Citadel, check your map. Check every level of the map. Look to see if there are any character names listed, even if you don't know them, even if they are a title rather than a name (like Asari Scientist). Then go and find those people and talk to them.

Yeah, whenever at the Citadel or on the Normandy....check your map every time. People pop up. People move around. Some are easily missed if you don't check the map.
