Ridiculous.

Is this the same reasoning that concludes blast effects are 'irrelevant' based on Siberia having life? You're pulling numbers out of your ass and calling it science and 'plausible reality.' You have no idea to the extent of the density of the platforms.

Try using some actual evidence next time. Then maybe you can talk about 'plausible reality.'

Xkcd is far overrated. The only satisfaction is from 'getting' the joke and smiling sightly to yourself because you know enough to understand it. The jokes themselves aren't funny. At all. It's also pretentious.

Pot, meet kettle.

Is there anything which doesn't provoke a condescending scoff from you?

Meaningful heroism, himself.

I'm Bob. From Accounting.

Back to the relevant issue. Despite L'Etoile apparently being the current darling writer of this section of the forum, the idea is terrible. God awful.

First, there's the seeming 100% convergence between your own views and the ones David7204 professed (i.e. "Games shouldn't be difficult," "People should stop complaining about Liara's importance," "There's nothing wrong with picking the top of the wheel every time," etc.). Second, there's the remarkable similarity in terms of the methods that both you and David use to express those views: For instance, there's the old standby of diagnosing the "real reasons" why people disagree with you (which invariably have to do with them being stupid and bad), and second, there are the words and phrases you both use (i.e. "silly," "childish," "delusional," "ridiculous," etc.). On top of all that, "Bob From Accounting" is taken from TVTropes, which was known as a favorite David7204 hangout. Given all of this, it's statistically very unlikely that you aren't the same person as David7204.

Returning to the topic, I think it's difficult to evaluate L'Etoile's idea fairly without having the context of knowing what events would have gotten the Geth and the Quarians to this point. I'm not much of a stickler for scientific accuracy in ME, and given my own dissatisfaction with the existing Rannoch arc, maybe I'm just projecting my wish fulfillments onto Chris' ideas, but still, I would have liked to hear the full story that he would have planned out.

The question I wonder is if David thinks he is actually fooling anyone, I wouldn't put it past him, or if he's simply doing it for the sake of the mods.

We all draw water from the same well.

In any case, it's barely even a question of scientic accuracy, but of narrative consistency. This idea introduces three - three! - big clumsy plot points that have to be accounted for from now until forever. Ramming and wormholes and black holes are now valid tactics in the Mass Effect universe. Four if you count the Dyson Sphere itself, which you probably should if it's acting as anything other than a power plant and data network.

Four big, ugly, clumsy plot points. All to win one battle. It's an absolute guarantee of very serious plot holes and contrivences for a paltry return. I don't need a long elaboration to see that. It's about as inelegant as a battle can get. Far better to look to simple solutions for simple problems.

And that doesn't even consider the science, which is again, guaranteed to be wrong.

Count me completely unpersuaded by this defense. Even if your cluster of beliefs happens to be the exactly correct cluster (which I seriously doubt), it still wouldn't explain the extraordinary similarities in terms of the methods and phrasings you both used; do all smart people not only believe the all same things, but express these things in the exact same way? But enough of this.

At any rate, the mechanics of how Chris' hypothetical plot would develop (i.e. black holes, etc.) are precisely the least interesting part of it to me. What I'm interested in is what circumstances would have necessitated some kind of Geth-Quarian cooperation, and what circumstances would have led to it. If you don't like the plot devices that are introduced to move this plot forward, then you can always substitute different ones.

Well the mechanics are all that was there. Interesting or not, they're crucial. End of the day, the good guys need a way to defeat the bad guys. Substituting different ones is no trivial or easy task. It is was, we wouldn't have the Crucible.

In any case, they have a thematic impact. Plots that heavily rely on whiz-bang pseudoscience instead of simple and elegant solutions, as this one does, nearly always rely on them to the detriment of everything else. Themes are unlikely to shine through or even be significantly present at the climax.

You're David. Pretending to be someone else. There's no use in pretending to be any different, because everyone knows that Bob from Accounting and David7204 are one and the same. All you did metaphorically was grow a mustache. Os highlighted why this is better than I could and to do the same would be redundant.

And I think your criticism is unfounded and spiteful. And I disagree, completely. All you're saying is that the idea is terrible and not providing any context as to why it is so, merely stating discontent without elaborating. And you're speaking as if you are categorically correct.

Yeah, ditto. I've messaged Allan about it and he said that he and the other mods were well aware that Bob and David are the same.

I just don't think its constructive to compare an actually produced story with some nebulous potential other idea that will remain unrealized. Its definitely not healthy to idolize it.

My two favrite storyarchs in ME3 is Tuchanka and Rannoch.

I might have a few issues with it here and there, but they are still my favrites.
I have no idea what alternative plots would have been like, mostly rumors.

Also, I cant say I'm a fan of the darkenergy plot. It sound even more retarded than the current endings. Far too spacemagicy.

They won't ban him because they feel sorry for him.

Which is I'm not gonna lie probably the greatest mod reaction I've ever seen.

I have a message from Allan that basically says that the Mods are aware of him and giving out warnings to people who 'take potshots at him'.

I have a message telling me I shouldn't call out Bob/David in certain topics (topics he inevitably does show up in though). The 'Bob/David' literraly being in the message, it's not my own words.

It's not an 'official warning' or whatsoever... just a mod acting on his own. It's rather peculiar.

Just checked: also by Allan.

Maybe they're just giving up at this point. If Bob got permabanned again, how long would it be until we started seeing posts by "Rob From Human Resources" about the awesomeness of clicking the top part of the wheel every time? My guess would be, "Not very."

IP banning only goes so far: All you have to do to get around it is make a new account on a different computer (a public library computer or something, make a new email address, new gamertag/PSN ID/PC username, and a new Origin account, and registering ME3 onto that account) and he could technically do it indefinitely. You'd even be able to access it off of your own IP since the account you're using was made on a separate network. Not that I know about this or anything...

They did try to limit the number of times you can register for ME games (which you need to do to post in the forums). He technically could come back, but he'd have to find a way around that to actually post. I haven't tried it to see how many accounts you can make off of one game on Origin. If he couldn't register his game anymore, he'd have to buy a new one. That would be dedication if he got banned to the point where he bought a new copy (granted, I can pick up a brand new unopened Collector's Edition copy at Disc Replay for about $20 or a standard copy for about $10). Still, would you really want to spend money on a new copy of a game you already have just to be able to register it online to be able to post on the fan board about how silly and childish and ridiculous they are?

For a rational person... probably not.

For whatever David is... who knows what boils inside that head of his.

It's like this:

They control Bob. He is their solution.

Us: Solution? Solution to what?

All forums eventually enter a death spiral where they die from lack of discussion, but they found a way to stop that.

Us: Bob. Bob from Accounting.

Precisely. Without Bob's scoffing at our ideas our threads would simply run one to two pages and end. People would leave the forum and interest in the Mass Effect series would dwindle.

Us: I think we'd rather keep our own threads.

You can't. Bob must intervene.

If it's making money for them, I guess...

Could probably make more by being more aggressive in banning him. Blocked again? Buy another copy!

It would seem he did it once with the "David 7204" profile. Auld Wulf didn't even bother changing his handle when he turned up a second time; they permabanned him in less than an hour.
