I realise we haven't seen much of any of them so far, but does the party seem a bit more stable than the DA2 team?

I'd guess they're as stable as one can be when demons are literally falling from the sky.
They all seem a lot more stable than Anders, though, but who isn't?. The only wild card is Cole.

No clue, we hardly know any of the companions yet.

I think that given the themes around the companions in DA 2 and DA: I, we should see a shift in how they perceived as a whol. In DA 2, the companions are all outcasts, so many of them seem unstable. In fact, this trait is what caused them to be outcast in the first place in some cases (Merrill, in particular). In DA: I, the companions are all going to be leaders and respected individuals, so I suspect that they will likely be more stable.
Obviously there are some exceptions in both games. Aveline, in DA 2, who is pretty stable and rational; Cole, in DA: I, who is likely to be pretty unstable. But the themes hold for the most part.

All things considered, half the party was pretty stable in DA2. Aveline, Varric and possibly Isabela didn't have any serious emotional issues hanging over them. Since they were all outsiders/outcasts/whatever though, I'd expect them to have some issues.
The DAI companions, as daveliam says, are supposed to be important and respected. I imagine they won't have too much in the way of emotional baggage. No moreso than Aveline, anyway, and she was a very together woman.

I'm not sure being recognized as a person of authority makes you "stable". Meredith, Adrian, Lambert, Loghain...

I don't believe the last three of that list were unstable, honestly.

Adrian was hot headed and ruthless for a cause she believed in, that doesn't make you unstable.

Most of the parties in Bioware games tend to a little unstable and have a lot of issues. And Shepard lampshaded in ME3, often have problems that are related to either their upbringing, parents or someone/thing that could be construed as a surrogate father-figure.
On the other hand, if we go the other way and have characters with very few personal conflicts, we end up having a companion like Jacob Taylor in ME2, who most of the fandom considered to be incredibly dull as a result of his being the most "normal" person on the ship.
Personally, I'm fine with a group of dysfunctional people, although it'd be nice if maybe someone else could play the warrior therapist this time? Wynne was good at taking some of the load off in Origins, since she often would listen and offer advice to various party members. She was also the only one who ever asked the Warden how they were feeling and questions about them, which I liked.

I feel like every Dragon Age companion needs to be "fixed" in one way or another, which will always lead to an imbalance.
