It would be hard for Bioware to top the amount of dysfunction that DA2's companions had.  However, they may just see that as a challenge.

My PC, being mighty diplomatic, would want to talk to her, I'd like to kill her.

ANYWAY on topic: I think this batch of companions will be about as stable as the rest of their predecessors

I certanly vote for that. Most importantly, an party that doesn't go out of their way to cause chaos. I don't mind companions with personal issues, but the DA2 ones took it to whole new level. Isabela leaving an entire city to be destroyed, Merrill antics possibly leading to her whole clan death and Anders little stunt by the end of the game. At least companions with an small sense of damage control.

On top of the relative instability of the DA2 companions in their personal affairs, they bickered ALL OF THE TIME (they were more than just loners or outcasts... DA:O had almost all loners or outcasts, but they mostly had their stuff together).  It wasn't even just bickering really, they seemed to downright hate each other, and it was just awkward at times (Aveline vs. Isabella especially).  Varric was a good exception as he tended to bring out the better sides in everyone during party banter, but the rest were just nightmares to have in your party together.

I will say though that Velanna in DAA was probably the worst though in terms of constantly picking fights...

The problem with the stable characters is that a lot of people seem to find them boring, or potentially whiny.  Look at how ya'll treated Carth, Kaidan and ME 2 Jacob.

The only one I am worried about is Cole but it can't be as bad as DA2.

I guess it's not just about stability it's about how they react to stuff. Ogren and Vellanna were not at all stable but they didn't cause havoc for the pc all the time.

And oddly enough the stable companions seem to be the most well liked by the fandom, such as Varric, Aveline and Bethany. At least these characters weren't headaches for Hawke to deal with.

I sincerely hope they're more stable, this is a group of people gathered to help save the world. DA2 was more the tales of a bunch of lowlifes who hung out together down the pub.
