Associating physical copies of games with Origin.

Well, for some reason Mass Effect 2 installer rejected the second game CD. I tried cleaning it, and pressed "Retry". No cigar. Repeated, didn't help. I then cancelled the install and tried again. This time the game installed without a problem. However, the game then complained that the DVD wasn't legit. The game ran properly with a no-DVD crack, but now complained that it can't connect to the server and that all of my DLC would be unavailable. I hit the "Connect" button, and was prompted to re-enter my account details. I did, and my DLC became available again, but I have to do this every time I start the game.

So my question is... I have a legit copy of the game, but one of the DVDs seems to be damaged. Is there any way that I could associate my physical copy of the game with Origin? And for game companies to stop this DRM-nonsense that only annoys paying customers?

Aww man. You have my sympathies.

All I know about origin is how to add a game to the "my games" tab.

  1. Go online for origin
  2. Click the origin tab on the top corner of the screen
  3. Click "add game"
  4. Choose the option that suits you and follow the instructions they give
  5. Please note that a CD key can only be used once

I only have Mass Effect 1. This probably isn't what you're looking for, but it's a start I guess. Try 'wiki'ing it.

Additional warning.  I have ME2 on Origin and was given a second copy by EA support due to a faulty CD key which was being rejected by BSN.  The second copy resulted in authentication errors with Origin as you can see on this thread:

http://answers.ea.co...06/td-p/1595693

I am concerned that because you already have ME2 installed and authenticated by EA's Digital Rights management restrictions, you may encounter this same issue by installing a digital copy of ME2 via Origin on the same computer.  If you encounter this issue, seek help here because EA support absolutely did not help me.  I had to fix the problem myself.

I tried, but since I bought my game upon release (pre-Origin), the CD key is already used. Also tried googling, but nothing came up. That's why I'm here. Thanks anyways :)

Sheesh. When will big companies learn that DRMs do very little to curb piracy. Like the founder and CEO of CDProjekt Red said: "We released The Witcher 2 DRM-free on gog.com on the same date as the packaged version became available. Guess which version hit piratebay? It was the cracked DVD version." (Note that while the packaged copies of TW2 did have DRM, it was patched out 2 weeks after launch. CDPR later announced that they will not be using DRM in the future.)

If your CD key is being rejected, you can contact EA support and show them proof of purchase to get a CD key.  They'll ask for verification and stuff like that.

Well, I still seem to have a receipt for the Collector's Edition addons, but I think I've lost the original purchase receipt. This one's a bit faded (it's over 4 years old, after all), but should be clear enough. Still, the game is registered to this user account. Shouldn't that be enough?

Mass Effect 2 is registered in your account?  If it is, it should show up on Origin already.  If not, you'll need to supply proof of purchase of the actual game (not add ons).  If you have a receipt for the add ons, it could work though.

I have several games that are registered to my Bioware account, but for some reason they're not showing up on Origin. Probably because while they work as one, they're not really acting as one in this regard. I guess I'll have to contact support...

Yes, you should do that.  Also citing that the game is registered on your BSN should help in proving you own a copy of the game.  But they will ask you for verification that you are who you say you are.

Yeah, that's basically what I wanted to know, and was hoping for an official confirmation from BW/EA. Guess I'll ticket them later.

Heh, I think my Origin and BW accounts are using the same email... They're basically the same account, but for some reason they don't seem to be communicating registered game information.

Good luck with that.  EA's account support is definitely more responsive in that regard.

We only have a view into certain aspects of your account and that ability is limited to only a few individuals. It also doesn't include any sort of billing information. 99% of the time the only people who can fix account issues are EA customer support reps as they have a much more complete view of your account and have the tools to make adjustments. That is why they are much more responsive, it's their job to be. ;)

I will add that if you are having serious problems with support not being responsive we can sometimes help out with that but again it will depend on what the problem is you're having.

Nice to know Jesse!  I would have wanted to know that while I was having my ME2 issues though! :)
