Change for the better, not just "Congratulations, you just went and f*cked everything up for a future adventurer to fix because you were a gullible pawn" like DA2.

Something along the lines of Origins. Enough to conclude the Inquisitor's part in the world of Thedas, even if it means having multiple Sacrifice endings (Quizzie, LI, Companion) and a Deep Dark Ritual just to keep the Quizzie (or LI/Companion/Sacrifice Person Alive).
Wouldn't even mind a Sacrifice Morrigan ending for the ultimate twist.
So long as its not a cliffhanger ending like DA2 (and the Inquisitor disappeared...) or anything that hints to the Inquisitor being in DA4 or *insert next DA game* so we don't have people thinking their Quizzies are Dragon Age's Shepard.
*side note- I do hope the series goes into either a previous Age (Tower Age, etc...) or the next age after Inquisition*

Having an ideal ending already is just setting yourself up for disappointment. There's far too much about the story that's still unknown plus 2 more confirmed games in the series so expect some closure but more mysteries
So I guess the question is, what's the ideal closure?
Mine is
Get the job done. Go home
Not be forced to commit monstrous acts to "win"

An ending, where my char is clearly alive or dead, but not such a damn breath scene like in ME3.
Personal favorites are heroic sacrifice or hero saves the day.

After the credits all inquisition members are seen together eating the thedas pendant of schawarma and well, cookies ![]()

In the ultimate sacrifice ending, you end up standing in the Black City, but there is no sign of the taint or its source. The city doesn't even look black, it's more of an unilluminated golden.
In the "nope, not going to sacrifice myself" ending, you cannot fully close the Fade tear and instead bind it to the Temple of the Sacred Ashes, to be guarded. Here, we find out that something escaped just before or after placing the remainder of the Breach there.
Actually, that's the ending I think is more likely, which leads into a Dragon Age 4. My actual ideal ending would be standing victorious in the Black City after destroying the source of the darkspawn taint.

If the Maker must appear I want it to be revealed that he is the most powerful demon in the fade, and that Andraste was an abomination. I don't know If I DO want that though

An ending that isn't rushed or put off till the end of development or the "pipeline"
I don't care if it is happy or sad, I only care that it is polished and consistent and coherent and satisfying.

For me, I want the ending to set up for the next DA, maybe:
1.) Return/Invasion of Ancient/Arlathan elves or
2.) Massive Qunari fleet invasion or
3.) Dragons everywhere or
4.) Sixth Blight
Kinda like what they did in ME2 ending. That gave me goosebumps!

Flemeth flies into the scene and reveals that The Inquisitor is her pet, a demon that possessed a man.
Hawke comes out of nowhere riding on Isabela and kills them both.
The Warden then cuts off Hawke's head and takes off his sunglasses, saying '' I guess his hawk vision was... lacking '' before Sten yells: '' YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH! ''

I would really like an ending where it feels like I succeeded, and my efforts are shown through the companions having their special endings/paths. To feel like everything I have done in the games, the people I met, the lands I have traveled have my inquisitors marks and it hasn't been just some predetermined path that I in the end could not deviate from.
An ending that makes me want to play through it again, and see what other endings I get with a different character.

I just hope they don't do what they did with Origins ending, in that many of the changes that happened because of your character revert back to they way they were before the game began (a lot of the racial relations just reverted for me after the death of the Arch demon so that kind of makes your actions feel empty.)

Character rides off into the sunset with DHMG/Tevinter Mage to Tevinter Imperium to go make trouble. Likely a big mess (some changes) left in Inquisitor's wake. The Grand Game left intact. ![]()

I just knew someone was going to bring up the colored endings ![]()
Well I pick the red one.
Seriously though, I would like it to be a setup for the next game.
You close the veil tear. The empires of Thedas start to rebuild when suddenly all the surviving kings/queens (and maybe even the Divine O_O) are all cut down one by one by assassins in an effort to weaken the empires further.
Qunari invasion starts as cinematic shows dreadnoughts bombing the city nearest to their borders and their soldiers gathering up people to force them to convert.
On the flip side of the world, cinematic shows a bunch of Wardens (and the Warden Commander/Orlesian Warden) finding an ancient thaig with info that proves the dwarves once worshipped their own gods, and that god/religion is somehow connected to why the Old Gods are imprisoned.

Your inquisitor begins quietly contemplating their victory at a cliff edge at the (blank) sea when one of your agents runs to them and gives them a sealed note. Your Inquisition reads the note, nods the agent off, goes to the edge of the cliff and starts contemplating an approaching storm, then the shot will cut to a wide shot of a similar looking storm and out of the storm wall comes an armada of a thousand Qunari dreadnoughts then credits.

A royal wedding. King Alastair goes through with Cailin's (rumoured) plan; he ditches Anora and marries Empress Celene, thus uniting the lands of Ferelden and Orlais. If Celene is fertile, the union ensures the Theirin royal line continues. With the combined resources of the two nations, the Grey Wardens can rebuild to a larger position of strength and ensure better protection for when the next blight occurs.

An ending that doesn't involve the inquisitor disappearing under mysterious circumstances, like the Warden and Hawke in the last two games or having a ending like the one in DA:2.
