If not for the sudden drop of the reaper´s shields, I wonder if the allied forces could still win,

Yes. Had Hackett had the fleet fire on Sovereign at its backside, I believe it would've been destroyed without fighting the grasshopper. Sovereign was latched onto the Tower so it was a sitting duck. It could only fire at what was in front of it.

In ME1, during most of the talks, nothing changes. You say the same things with a different tone, but the result is the same.

It´s surprising that in many cases shepard can´t even think of arresting certain individuals. If he tried and the person decided to shoot or commit suicide, it would seem somewhat satisfactory.

In several cases it was irresponsible not to take certain individuals into custody even if it was just to better question them, clarify a few things, obtain recorded statements, place them under observation for indoctrination, etc. Total lack of prudence being displayed.

And to be frank, why am I able to shoot the salarian who wants to scan the keepers as well as Fist, and not kill them, but I always end up having Saleon or ALL of the exogeni people killed? Can´t I thrown some of the several spare granades that I used on Feros to merely incapacitate people and that I happen to have with me, equipped, at this very moment?

My people are professionals, using heavy armor and armed to their teeth. Why can´t we simply shoot at their legs after hitting them with stasis, or lift? Is it so hard to capture the exogeni head scientist?

If it was really me, I would leave my 2 squad-mates on that room, and ask the woman who commanded the facility to go have a private talk with me on the other room. I´m sure we could reach some sort of agreement, like having her make a full confession in exchange for a pardon for her and keeping her name secret from the public.

I agree with you on every one of those (including Fist, Maelon, etc.) except Rana. The problem with letting Rana go, as you note, is the tactical situation. You can't just tie her up, because that is the same as just killing her. You are, after all, about to nuke the place. But if you don't tie her up she might run off and tell Saren, et. al. where you are and what you are up to. So there I would make the choice between a trusting, paragon Shepard, and a ruthless, mission-comes-first Shepard. Instead, the "ruthless" Shepard comes off as an avenging angel. Shepard basically says she is punishing Rana for her experiments. A truly "ruthless" Shepard would kill her because she is a threat to the mission, not to take vengeance or administer "justice."

I thought Rana was basically who she seemed to be - a somewhat self-centered opportunist who got in over her head. That doesn't excuse what she did - like I said, I'd have arrested her in ME1 if it were feasible (and in ME2, for that matter, where the situation is at least a little calmer by the time Shepard finds her). But I didn't think she had much loyalty to Saren or would try to foul up the mission - she'd be too busy running.

I was under the impression that I could shoot her in ME2.

I couldn't :(

Like I said, the choice should have been between trust and distrust, not trust and "avenging angel."

I flip a coin. What's in a chance for all the decisions to make?

I save them. To be more specific, I save the Destiny Ascension. I don't really care about the council. They are useless IMO.

@Bardox9, Well, DA is pretty useless too if it can't kick Geth ass with its 'enormous' guns. I didn't even see it TRYING to fight back.
Why would Geth concentrate their firepower on a DA in the first place? There were other armed ships, even dreadnoughts. But no, somehow they know that they need to shoot down the Council ship, so Shepard would get this hard choice. C'mon, Council, you can do better than that. Sovereign was busy humping the Tower, why not just shoot down Geth ships first and concentrate on a Reaper from a safe distance if you don't know how to destroy it? I mean, Turians got their all-mighty fleet we are told, why not just ask them for help? I doubt Sovereign destroyed all their ships. And look how easily Sovereign was destroyed after its shield went down. How could it possibly be harder to clear the sky from Geth ships? Well, I guess being smart is forbidden due to the plot requirement.

I usually save the council, the choice overall is more noticeable in ME 3 than in ME 2.

War Assets or not, Councilor Tevos is hot stuff!

I couldn't let her die! Goddess no!!

The other two well... I really was conflicted on this, but once I made my decision, I didn't go back and try the other choice.

Mostly because a choice is a choice and well, that's that.

But from what I've heard the council isn't as nice if you let them die,

maybe its that whole thing of every good deed pays off in the end?

I dunno if that is true in this case.

And on a side note: The Destiny Ascension is beautiful and I can't let 10000 people die for some selfish losers.

What's the point in saving the galaxy, if you're just going to tear it apart later? The council is essential to the stability of intergalactic peace and commerce between the the known races in the galaxy. Having a all human council will eventually break relations with all of the previous council races, and eventually the non-council races. What you will have, is humans being seen as tyrants who just want to rule everything, and it is that view, that will light the fires of revolution.. Not good when you are already fighting a war.

Save the Council? No. Save the biggest flagship at the Citadel with thousands of innocent lives in danger? Yes. It just so happens though that the Council also like that ship.

 Amen to that.

I also like that the turian councilor becomes less of a jerk when the continuation of his species is about to become a non-issue.

In my current run.. if I'll ever finish it (getting kinda completely sucked into NBA 2K14 career mode :D), I'll probably sacrifice the council, but hope not to get an all human council.

I always save the Council and the Ascension.

Because that's how I play it out with my canon Shepard.

Edit: and yes Tevos = hot.

Yes. 99% of that decision is based on Tevos.
