As a mage my character is suppose to be intelligent, for casting spells. I would like to be able to invent my own personalized spells with magical items that I collect out in the wilderness.  I want to custom make it and give the tome a personalized name. If it isn't too much I would like for the NPC's who are mages to give me credit for my work, this is if I sell enough tome books.

Well the idea is nice but how would it work? What would the spell creating system involve?

Interesting idea.

I like the idea of going out in the world and finding texts or uncovering tomes that have forgotten spells in them to learn.

This sort of thing works OK in the TES games, but those games aren't really about having good combat balance.

then as a warrior I want to invent my own weapons and techniques and rogues should be able to make unique custom poisons and bombs and arrows and stuff.

well I think smithing and alchemy were confirmed in the PAX demo so at least part of your wish will be granted.

I know that there will be a degree of weapon and potion making in-game, I was just trying to point out the totally-in-favor-of-mages factors of the OP's statement.  If they put something like this in (I doubt it, not really Biowares thing from what I've seen) then they need to give warriors and rogues something equivalent.

Fair enough.

Do you know if the smithing will be like Skyrim or like Reckoning?

We haven't been told anything as detailed as that I'm afraid. All we know is that we can forge our own weapons and name them, which is good news as far as I'm concerned. The information given was at 20:07 on this video.

For making a spell you could decide the area of effect, type of damage (if any), and status effects. The mana cost could depend on the decisions.

Always liked the idea of spell creation. But the issues present in the earlier Elder Scrolls games with spell creation would still be an issue in any Dragon Age game - balance.

I  didn't like that part of TES. Tried it a bunch of times but always ended in either making super-powerful-spells which depletet my whole mana in one go... or weak as sh*** spells, which were absolutely ineffective but could be use  a hundrerd times in a row.

No, if i liked to see something in regards of the magic-system then either the return of crossing them over to gain new effects or upgrade them much deeper.

Didn't Oblivion have something like this?

I seem to remember creating a spell in that (granted it could have been a PC mod) and I ended up killing like 12 Imperial Guards with it by mistake (I was young and it was an AoE spell and I didn't realize it would jump to kill EVERYONE)

Would that also mean that if you sell the tome as stated in the OP that enemy mages will be able to use your own custom spells against you?

They had custom spells in Oblivion. I would have liked for it to carry over to Skyrim.

I think spell creation is a really cool idea but one that I'd have no idea how it could be implemented and balanced.
