If he's 40, then his life is worse than I thought.

I'm mid 30s and don't even have crow's feet yet. B)

shush you, you're making me jealous. Mid 40's can hit pretty hard  :P

The Duncan in 'the calling' and the Duncan in DAO are like day and night though. How could one change so much?

Constant fighting of darkspawn and traipsing about the Deep Roads.

He was pretty close to his calling as well according to Alistair, he said he started having nightmares again. I'm guessing that would change a lot.

I think you're just hoping for the best for your own character. Think you and Alistair will have a happy life as Wardens and all that, right?

No, you're all going to morph into wrinkled, miserable bastards. Mark my words. ;)

Sorry but nope. Your happiness or lack of it has to do with choosing to be happy even in the face of unpleasant circumstances and events. I'm pretty good at that, and I think all my wardens would be as well.

Eh, age is just a number. If you dwell on it, it can make you feel old or like too much time has gone by. If you think of all the possibilities, then you feel younger. It's all about possibilities and mindset. I find feeling like there are still so many possibilities that are pretty awesome makes me feel 30 again. If I let the myself think about it differently, I get caught up in some older mindset and feeling like too much time has gone by or it's too late... that sort of thinking.

That's cool.

I don't really take care of myself, tbh. I'll get them eventually. I think it's just my genes for now (I'm half Asian.. my mom doesn't have them either).

Half Asian gives you a free pass on about two decades I think.

I wonder what the age of most people here in the forum is? I feel like we're in the minority....

I get that feeling too.. But, the development team seems to be around our age range or older, so it works out.

That's one thing I'm looking forward to with DAI as well. Seems like many of the companions are in the same age range. Varric and Cass are at least.

I'm early 40's and seen some much older than me here. And a lot of students, I'm guessing its pretty balanced.

^ I agree, it's nice to think a lot of the companions or some at the very least are going to be middle aged or close to it. We pretty much had the 20/30 somethings last time, now seems like the 30/40 somethings more this time round.

I think it's a mix of the nature of the game, it's fans and how old the game is. This game has a good mix of ages for fans, people that were really into D&D which would not be students. And then there is the fact that as the game ages, so do the fans. You don't want to keep all the heroes at 20 something. As it is, I always RP alistiar to be thirty and my PC mid twenties. I don't care what the lore says. He looks like he could be mid thirties with the mod I have. I just sort of forget most of the specific details that would make it unlikely for him to be 20. I can't RP a romance with a 20 year old or that a 20 year old is going to save the world from a blight.

But I think they have aged them so it keeps up with the fans and players. Lots of games now have PCs who are closer to 30. Some have younger ones, but I've noticed many in the past 5 years looking back to older ones I bought a few years back seem to be around 30ish. I think that's a good age because you can add or subtract a few years and still feel like you can relate. Much older or younger and you begin to alienate some of your fan base or some of the consumers. Look at the witcher. He looks 40 something at least.

Yeah, I kind of come from the older DnD crowd (not that I play much pen and paper rpgs, but I've always been interested and Bioware started their name with that license). They've probably kept a lot of fans like me over the years.

Apparently, though I haven't seen it myself, when you get to the alienage Iona's daughter can be seen sitting crying for her mother.

Iona's daughter is Amethyne, a little girl in Alienage: she has a yellow marker ... all she does is cry...

Yeah, she's dwindling and says her mom was supposed to come back from highever. I think she says her mom promised to bring a toy back too. Something really sad like that.

So as a noble, if I talked to Iona, she will have a quest marker or something? Where is she in the elvenage? Or should I not even bother because she just does nothing but cry....

Oh I just found some info on her....

They could have at least allowed us to do something other than watch her cry. If you know who she is and they put a marker on her, it seems like there should be an option to talk to her. Offer her some help of some sort...

Yeah, you can't do anything.

If there's one good reason for my Warden to commit suicide and do the Ultimate Sacrifice, this should be it. :D

"The guilt! All for a one night stand. I can't live with it!"

But I didn't have a one night stand with her. I was with Deirren. How would that matter to Iona? And should my PC never have sex because some tool might come and massacre everyone in the place when I do it thereby leaving someone motherless? No. That's just nuts. It's not the PCs fault. How could they possibly have forseen. It was just bad timing and bad luck. Then you'd never be having sex. I feel bad for the girl... but not THAT badly.

^This. And the taint that kills most people is coursing through his body all those years. Imagine what it does to the Wardens? And living with constant fear, or if not that, stress, or worry, over the return of the darkspawn when humans (short memories) have been complacent for many, many years and the Wardens aren't trusted in Ferelden? There could be so many reasons for why Duncan appears to have aged so quickly, or poorly, heh.

She's just a casualty of war in that case. But if you sleep with her, I think there's reason to feel some guilt (maybe not suicidal guilt.. kind of kidding there). In that case, she's in your charge and you put her in the line of fire.

It's just unfortunate circumstance, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You could think of it as at least she had one night feeling special. And you do avenge her in the end as everyone that died there that night.

By the time you're able to enter the Alienage, many months of game time has passed.... And poor Amethyne is still waiting for her mother to return....
I imagine most players will have forgotten who she is

And notice she is elven, though her father was human

Duncan? I think that my girl could handle that. After all Ms Cousland has all the sexual morality of an alley cat. A sweet one.

I have actually killed off both Dairren and Iona all for Fergus' saucy minx line. When you go into the study Dairren is almost straight ahead. Iona is off to the right (?) and a bit hidden.
