... and, c'mon, we've all learned to accept that MGS4 and GTAIV weren't "perfect 10" games, so comparing anything them to them is rather invalid.

2. The reviewers have played the game, obviously
3. Different people have different tastes
4. Saying one game gets x score while another gets y is stupid.
5. Giving reasons why they gave thescore they did is again, stupid
Read the review and judge for yourself.

Very nice score. I tend to agree with IGN's reviews. Except their rediculous 10/10 for gtaIV. I never played MGS4 so I can't comment on that. ME2 is looking to be one of my favorite games of all time. Tuesday can't come fast enough.
I didn't agree with 10/10 on Grand Theft Auto4 either. That was more of a timing issue. April Gaming drought, boom GTAIV pops, and it seems like the holy grail.
I'll sum up MGS4, and consider that, I don't own a PS3 but have played a good chunk of MGS4, and very much Liked the Metal Gears up until MGS2 when the story took a turn to ****tytown (Vamp's Bisexual btw).
Stealth Gameplay cut completely. In favor of unlimited ammo tranq pistol that drops pretty much everyone in 1 hit.
Horrible Writing. (Not saying the actual story is bad, I'll say that later, but just the writing style of Kojima is terrible)
2/3 the Game is non-interactive cutscenes.
The Main villian is actually a hand, controlling Ocelot telepathically or some such. So about as compelling as a bag of vomit.
The combat controls are clunky and painful. Would be an asset if the game focused on stealth rather than bang bang shootey booms. (By asset, I mean simulate the pain of Solid Snake's age-induced arthritis)
My point is not saying that MGS4 is a bad game, but citing this example that IGN is as reliable as their bank account permits. I'm surprised they gave Dark Void a crappy review, but then again, it was from a new Developer sooo?
I just wish numerical scores would be tossed out the window. There is no mathmatical equation to derive fun.

I think the only thing concern for ME3 would be to amp-up/improve on what they've already established in ME2. especially the characters-continuing to evolve them and make them interesting.
i cant wait for the video reviews! when will they be out. The game will be released soon!

You're right, and some people are more critical than others.
Comments > Numbers. And by any stretch, Mass Effect 2 is going to be something that sets 2010 as one of the best years in gaming. Snuffing out the stink of Darksiders and Dark Void in one swift drop.

Read the actual review before judging either way. (And then read several more)

Yeah, I figured that was the reason for the 10. I'll reserve judgement for MGS4 till I get a PS3 and play it though. But I haven't heard enough good about it. Dark Void seemed ok, I mildly enjoyed the demo. Wouldn't buy it for 60 bucks though.

2 pages only? other games got three or even four.
Sometimes less is more. Mass Effect 2 didn't need 2 or 3 more pages to justify its greatness.

I worked in the games industry for a big publisher/Developer five years ago now so things may have changed. Our Development team would wait to see the IGN review for games, probably more than any other review.
Marketing & PR just seen it as another site, important but not as important as something like the Mirror.

Sure thing. But sometimes I also need more pages to be able to judge whether the reviewer is really telling the truth or whether he's only hyping a game/pushing. The score is completely wasted on me. I want to know reasons. Only then I know if the reviewer can be trusted, also on future reviews. Longer reviews with more proving phrases are also more useful when it comes to bashing enemies... especially on IGN.
But maybe he wasn't like writing but wanted to return to the game.

My points are anecdotal at best really. Things definitely have changed though, right now one bad game can belly up even an established developer. There was a case a while ago of a German magazine being told they could only release a pre-launch review of Assassin's Creed 2 if it was "Very positive". That's only a stones throw away from just buying the review, since a pre-launch exclusive undoubtably means more magazine sales/subscriptions.
So do I honestly believe those scores were bought? No
Do I believe that they were totally honest? Absolutely not.
But this is derailing the thread, one which should be a celebration of Mass Effect 2's currently universal critical triumph. Huzzah!
