Um... I confess I can never stop myself from talking to absolutely everyone no matter what playthrough I'm on. First... second... thirteenth... It's a sickness. It really is.

Sometimes I will even go through all the investigative dialogue options only to skip through the responses. Just so, I dunno, I can tell myself I've "done" it all. Compulsive completionism ftw.

I thought that I was the only one who did this, I still talk to that guard right outside the entrance to Ostagar.  Maker save my pathetic soul

I'd love an intro like what's been suggested so far in this thread. I'm not a fan of the recent Bioware trend of forcing everything to be so damn urgent at the start of the game - I wish we could have spent time with Hawke's family in Lothering instead of seeing one of our siblings being crushed within 5 minutes of meeting them. Exploring the Circle Tower at the start of DAO was what sold me on the series and I hope newcomers will get the chance to experience something like that in DAI.

Well, I imagine there'll be something before the explosion, if for no other reason that to explain why our character is there in the first place.

I'm such they'd give an explanation on why our PC would be there, I hope

And those of us who had difficulty getting through the novels. (not so much the writing, more that it seems like the last time anything positive happened in Thedas it was the Blight ending fast. Gonna continue to attempt Asunder and Masked Empire. Could not care less about Maric and Loghain if I were putting effort into it.)

Masked Empire is worth it.. I found it way more better read from the rest of the novels. ^^

Anyone else hope that before the moment of the breach

Spoiler
we'll have some time to meet and chat with the people there.

Kinda similar to Ostagar in DAO

HAHA I was thinking that too..    They give you your background and for a hour or so..you get to be where the breach happen. .. meeting people, heck they might apply how the character knows some of these people.. before it all goes boom =O

Like some demons start pouring out and you find a weapon that matches your class laying around. :P

haha, that would be neat.. I can see that happening. to help you get an understanding of the class.  They did that with DA and DA 2..so I bet something like it will be set. ^^

I won't be surprised if that happens....we chat with them, get to know them just a bit,we might even already know a few who are there, then BAM! They are all dead! THE FEELS!!!!!   :crying:

Because y'know BioWare likes to see their customers in tears!  :(

haha.  i bet they will.. Just  as the City elf wedding... =(  or  human noble class...back in DA:O .. you will meet some character who are good friends,,heck might even be family members..  who will be there..before the breach happens. =(

Yes, and I hope there will be dialogue such as this:

"The Divine is very hopeful with these talks. The Mage leadership appears willing to negotiate...Lambert's sucessor is more reasonable than I expected him to be. Hearing him speak, one really believes that there is a middle ground between our freedom and their safety...And I wish it to be known that corruption will be as closely watched for in our ranks as amongst the mages. I will not tolerate Templars abusing their authority..."

And then BOOM!

and lo and behold that guy survives as well and gets twisted and becomes the leader of the red templars

I'd really hope so, get to place your feet on the ground and at least get a tiny feel of what the world is like now.

Rhys romance - which will last only for a few minutes before he gets caught in the blast.

And an Adrian romance - who won't get caught in the blast.

Because she is such a fan favorite.

If Adrian die in the prologue, who is going to be left on the mage side that is totally worth killing exactly?

Good question. Actually makes me wonder if she will die at all.

She does seem like the most likely mage not to be there. If Fiona and Rhys were going to not bring one person along to a peace conference, it would be Adrian.

I could easily see the whole lot of the mage leadership dying. Especially if Lambert really died at the end of Asunder, leaving any leadership at all on the mage side puts their faction more in a position of stability that either the Chantry or the templars/seekers. The libertarians were already spearheading the rebellion. Leaving them with their current leader puts them in a great position to just step in and fully assume control of the mage faction. It doesn't actually leave that much room for chaos. Chances are very good that the mages, as a whole, would rally behind them at this point. Especially knowing they were bound to cop the blame for the explosion, which you know they at least initially will, regardless who did it. Taking out all the respective leaders and having an even struggle in relatively unknown parties trying to take the reins makes the playing field a lot more even, all around.

I would very much like the ability to walk around and talk to characters for a bit. One of the things I hated about DA2 was how it immediately dived into the action, without allowing us to get to know Lothering (from Hawke's perspective) or Hawke's family at all, with us apparently supposed to care about the death of a character we've only known for a few minutes.

I could also easily see the pre-explosion peace summit used as an opportunity to allow the player to establish certain aspects of the Inquisitor's background through conversation, and could also be used to establish why the Inquisitor is important enough to be there in the first place. Security, I guess.

I was speculating earlier in another thread:

I rather hope we get the opportunity to play a bit before the Veil tears.

It would give players a chance to get used to the keys and interface, in addition to introducing new players to world of Thedas - you could go talk to a Mage and hear briefly about their stance; a Templar and hear about theirs; someone from the Chantry and hear about Andraste and the Maker; a Dalish and hear about the clans and the Dalish gods, a Qunari and hear about the Qun, etc.

You could also get an early chance to establish aspects of the player character, such as accepting/rejecting the Chantry's blessing, being respectful/rude to the elves or nobles or showing support for Fereldan/Orlais/any other nation.

Hopefully. I would like to at least speak to characters from the books before they explode.

Well, Fiona at least. She's the only character I can see definitely being there. Rhys & Evangeline may be back in Orlais holding the fort.

But then Rhys is head of the Aequitarians and Adrian is First Enchanter of the White Spire so it makes sense they'd be there too. God damn it...

I don't think we'll really see and Dalish or Qunari there

Sure you will, so as long as you play as one. Joking aside i'd be surprised if the PC was the only Dalish or Qunari there.

To be honest I've just been dreading that they might have the ruler of Ferelden there. I believe I heard somewhere that ...

*SPOILERS*

the conference is being held at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. I thought for a moment that having the ruler of Ferelden there as some sort intermediary made sense, given that the conference is being held within their borders and involves some pretty important people. I usually give the throne to Alistair...and I would REALLY hate if he ends up dying in a horrible magical explosion because of it...sigh
