I really hope Evangeline, Fiona, and Rhys stayed behind just in case something like an attack on the summit happened.

That's what I'm hoping for too, because it helps the player setup what kind of character they're playing as
I don't know but I think my theory sort of clashes with what I want. I would prefer time for us to go around and be at the summit and get to know the players and see, for ourselves, who is there or who is not there, whether it is Rhys, Fiona, etc, Justinia, I hope we get to talk to them briefly and get immersed and just have a moment of calm to orient ourselves. But I just do not think we're going to get one. I think if we are going to be at the peace summit we'll just be there passing through, or we will be passing through the blast radius of the Breach and then bam, we'll get sucked into the Fade, everyone else dies.
It just depends on how BioWare wants to handle the vagueness of the Inquisitor.
I think a little bit of time before we get sucked into the Fade or whatever happens would help us (and especially new players) maybe understand the conflicts and context of the world a bit.
I think our reasons will vary based on class and race, but there are multiple explanations that COULD work.
Human and dwarf warriors and rogues could be bodyguards.
Dalish elves (I think all elves are dalish for our PC) could be part of a dalish presence there, warriors or scouts, or a Keeper's First if a mage.
Qunari are the hardest ones...maybe you were a foundling by the Chantry and guard the Divine or something? If you're a mage...part of the rebellion? That's a hard one.

Please let us walk around and talk to the the leaders before they die Bioware! Please!
Might depend on what capacity the Inquisitor is actually at this summit, and who he/she is before the game starts. I mean, if we're just some lowly body guard for example, would we really be within our rights to just stroll around this summit and chat up the Divine? Or the leader of the mages?

Inquisitor: "Hey baby, you free when this is over?"
Divine: "Excuse me?"
The start would be a good place for some exposition anyways, let us know what's been happening since DA2. So yeah I'm hoping for some dialogue.
(See biower this is why we need our friend feed back, I went a month without knowing about this thread.)
I really do hope they do this tbh. The impact of Ostagar and each origin story was so much greater than DA2's intro because we got time to get to know our character and the people around him/her before losing it all.

See, I'm on the opposite end of that. I think if they say all the important leaders are dead, and then have the most important leaders not be dead, that'll cheapen the event, at least in my eyes.
At one of the recorded interviews at E3 (please don't ask me which) I definitely remember the Dev saying that the Chantry loses its leadership, which I took to mean the Divine. So I think that means we can say goodbye to Justinia. After all she would have to be there as no one else would have the authority and the ability to get both sides round the table. The mages wouldn't trust anyone else but since she helped them escape, I think they'd send at least one senior person to negotiate probably Grand Enchanter Fiona, which hopefully means Adrian tags along too and gets her just desserts. Lambert is meant to be missing, presumed dead, so without his bullying presence some of the less radical Knight Commanders might have talked their fellows into participating. I keep thinking that Gregoire might be the one One thing is certain, Cullen couldn't have been involved or he'd be dead too, which makes me wonder if he resigned from the Templars after Hawke left or got demoted by Lambert for allowing them to go. It is possible, though, that is was more than just one or two leading figures. May be all the Knight Commanders were there and all the Leaders of the Fraternities (since they were the ones he voted not to surrender in the first place) and that is why there is such chaos because there is no longer any chain of command on either side but both sides blame the other for what happened.
It may be the Inquisitor is there as a body guard or something since I was told on another thread that the human Quiz is a mercenary. However, Cassandra talks of thousands dying, so it seems the blast took many innocent bystanders as well. In which case the Inquisitor could just as easily been a pilgrim who happened to be there at the time of the conference.
I don't really see why there would be Dalish elves, Dwarfs or Tal-Vashoth at the conference in an official capacity. I suppose the latter two could be mercenaries but not the Dalish. Had the Divine finally got a conscience about the elves too and wanted to involve them because they also have mages.
Based on the ausgamers interview here:

I would say that Justinia and Fiona at least are killed; Cassandra sets in motion the reformation of the inquisition based on old church law and puts our character in charge based on what he can do. I would say that the opening has to be more like DAO and less like the 'in media res' opening of DA2 to get this all across.

Well, Bioware so far has only said the Chantry leadership is dead. They said nothing about the status of the Mage leadership.

This. Not everyone read the books/comics.

I seem to recall reading/hearing somewhere that there would be a tutorial intro into the game where you would get familiar to the some of the gameplay and be able to set the stage for your Inquisitors overall character. Sort of like how in DA2 if you picked the sarcastic response in the very beginning of the game when you're exploding Darkspawn with your brother or sister, your Hawkes responses when you didn't get to pick an option would be sarcastic.
Sorry
.
I'm surprised they revealed such a spoiler though.
Well, I guess it's better to reveal it now. Can't speak for everyone, but it gives me time to get over it instead of feeling nothing but wrath and sorrow for the first few hours of the game. I'll still feel that, but not as strong. ![]()

What if we are supposed to discover just who we are and why we were at the meeting?
That way, they could justify not giving us much in the way of a prologue.
Yes, It'd be better for the players (for those who will feel sad about it at least) to know it before-hand. Though I wonder why they thought it was better to tell us.
