I think it's Dog-it's his default name. You can change his name at will though, so i expect they'll go with Dog.

While he doesn't have a canon name as such, a few of the writers have joked that his "official" name is Rabbit.

AFAIK, "Barkspawn" started here, after game release:

http://www.penny-arc...ting-phenomenon

It took off and became massively popular, and as a nod to that, that's why the Dog is called Barkspawn in 'Darkspawn Chronicles.'

Come to think of it, the Darkspawn Chronicles tells the story of what would have happened if you died during the joining.  Alistair would have named the dog Barkspawn if it were up to him, but since the Darkspawn Chronicles never actually happened (it was just a possibility), Barkspawn is not the official name of the dog.  Besides, I looked up that Penny Arcade comic and it looked really dumb.

That's his non-canon name during the non-canon alternate universe where you buy the farm at the joining.

Dog has no canon name, minus well dog.

Rabbit was what everyone called him for the longest time and iirc it was considered for his default name, but considered confusing.

No. It's just a popular name among the fans and some of the writers.

It's just Alistair's headcanon name for the dog.

It sounds like something Alistair would make up.

I named mine Korr and for Hawke, Bane. I wish we knew more of the Avvar and other barbarian lore. I'd come up with something as cool as Hohaku then.

'Barkspawn'... I like it, and it really sounds like something Alistair would come up with, old goof-ball that he is ^^

As for mine, I had lots of different names for him, though in Origins I usually name him after ancient gods. Like Thor, Loki, Hades, stuff like that *gg* In DAII I started out with Castor and Pollux^^ A while ago I came up with 'Morwen' (no idea where that came from *gg*)

I named my dog "Cat" in one playthrough and "Alistair" in my main playthrough.

Morrigan saying "Now we have a dog and Alistair is still the dumbest one in the party." now causes Dog and Alistair to share a glance.  ^_^

My default dog name is ArfHowl, although my Dalish seem to prefer Shemsbane.

Dog is the "official" name, or at least as close as it gets to official.

Rabbit was the in-circle name for the devs during the game's development.

Barkspawn originated from a Penny Arcade comic and took off from there.
